We recently had the chance to connect with Carlos Solorzano and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carlos, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Starting in the summer, I started to attend a lot of local sporting events, specifically the Tucson Sugar Skulls Arena Football games and the Tucson Saguaros Baseball games. The highlight was watching the Tucson Saguaros win the Pecos League Championship here at Kino Stadium and attending the IFL National Championship game, which was held in the Tucson Arena this season.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Carlos Solorzano and I have been living in Sahuarita, AZ for the past 19 years. I moved here from the Los Angeles area and outside of my day job, which is teaching high school, I work as a professional musician. I perform as a drummer in various musical settings from country, rock, blues, and world beat groups, providing live music for musical theater productions and session work. I also write music that has been featured on films & television shows around the world.
Speaking of film, I have appeared thus far in 5 films here in the Tucson and Phoenix film scenes and am scheduled to appear in two more before the end of the year. I got into acting by accident and have really enjoyed the different roles I have had the chance to play.
Finally, I am also a published author and I was so excited to reconnect with my previous publisher who is in the middle of re-releasing the books we had published in the past with new covers. I hope to develop those stories into films sometime in the future.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
There were many things that I was afraid to try, things I was afraid to feel, and things that I would not admit to others. For some reason I felt that I was not worthy of the place this put me in and now, I will seize whatever opportunity I want to pursue. I am not afraid to try and I am not afraid to fail. It’s not important if someone likes what I do. It’s more important to me to know that I wasn’t afraid to see what I was capable of doing. Aside from that, I look forward to learning from every situation that I encounter in order to become a better artist and person.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
That you don’t always have to compromise with someone that you disagree with. Sometimes, the most important thing is knowing that we said what we had to say and that the other person heard and understood what we were thinking or feeling.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I would like to see my books made into films. Now that I am getting involved in acting I also want to have a role in each film.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely! I have never measured my success on money or credibility. I have always been able to look honestly at my work and know when I did the best version of a song, story, or acting performance. I have never been afraid to do something over as many times as needed and, if necessary, start from scratch. I am truly finished with a project when I am satisfied with it.
