Carolina Romanyuk of brooklyn on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Carolina Romanyuk and have shared our conversation below.

Carolina, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
The biggest misunderstanding about my work is that I “just help babies sleep.” In reality, sleep is only one entry point into a much bigger transformation.

When this magazine first reached out, I was known for pediatric sleep. That’s still a huge part of what I do, but over the years, I’ve learned that it’s never just about the baby. It’s about the whole system, the child, the parent, and the energy of the home.

I’m a Health and Sleep Practitioner, and my work lives at the intersection of family connection and individual healing. Through my company, Well Rooted Living, I help families restore balance not just with better schedules or nap routines, but by addressing the emotional and energetic patterns that shape how we show up in our homes and in our bodies.

One of the biggest misconceptions about hiring a sleep consultant is that you’re paying for a “sleep plan.” In reality, that’s just one piece of the puzzle. What creates lasting change is support. Someone walking with you through the emotional ups and downs, the doubts, and the adjustments that come with transforming your child’s sleep.

Because sleep training isn’t just behavioral, it’s deeply emotional. You’re not simply changing a bedtime; you’re helping a whole family recalibrate. Every child has unique needs, such as nutrition, milestones, health, and emotional safety, and every parent brings their own story, stress levels, and beliefs about parenting. Without addressing those layers, no method — gentle or structured — will fully “stick.”

Unfortunately, we live in a culture that rewards productivity over rest. New parents, especially moms, are expected to “bounce back” long before they’ve recovered. But true rest doesn’t come from a quick fix or a “cry it out.” It comes when the whole family feels safe, seen, and supported.

And beyond sleep, another big misunderstanding is around energy work and something I integrate deeply into my practice. Many assume that energy work is “woo-woo” or unscientific. I used to think that way, too, until I experienced the shift myself. Energy work isn’t about replacing traditional approaches; it’s about getting to the root, especially in the subconscious mind and in the body where the emotions are stored: the stress, imbalance, or emotional buildup underneath the surface.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Carolina Romanyuk — a Health and Sleep Practitioner, mom of two, and founder of a few heart-led brands that all connect back to one mission: helping families and individuals live with more peace, presence, and purpose.

Most people first find me through my work in pediatric sleep. I created the Sleep Trifecta System ( https://www.sleeptrifectasystem.com ) , a holistic approach that helps parents move from chaos to calm — not just by getting their little ones to sleep, but by understanding the nutritional, emotional, physical, and energetic patterns behind every sleepless night. Families can work with me one-on-one or with a certified Sleep Trifecta Specialist from my team ( https://sleeptrifectasystem.com/services ) , and they can also dive into my online sleep courses ( https://sleeptrifectasystem.com/coursebundle) and sleep schedules for support at every stage ( https://sleeptrifectasystem.com/sleepschedules ).

For parents just starting their journey in sleep training, I also created a free Compassionate Guide to Starting Sleep Training that is a heartfelt audio book and workbook that walks you step-by-step through the process with confidence and compassion -because yes, it’s emotional and that’s okay. https://sleeptrifectasystem.com/newtosleeptraining

As my work grew, so did my calling. I launched Well Rooted Living
— a holistic wellness company that helps adults and families heal from the inside out. We focus on nervous system regulation, mindset shifts, and energy work to support deeper balance and clarity. Our offerings include Reiki sessions (for teens and adults), Mommy & Me Reiki, and Akashic Records sessions, to name a few where each one is designed to bring you back to your center.

I also created a children’s book series that helps little ones feel seen, safe, and emotionally aware one bedtime story at a time. ( https://www.EmpathKids.com ) ,

And most recently, I launched The Flashlight Podcast ( https://open.spotify.com/show/3v3EYlEvWfqVMK4d0zODtj?si=96e96b6597f74ebd) — a soul-led show that shines light on the hidden patterns, beliefs, and “aha” moments that help people step out of survival mode and into self-awareness and joy.

Each brand is a piece of a bigger picture: helping people rest, reconnect, and rise — whether that’s through better sleep, deeper healing, or emotional storytelling.

If you’re a parent running on fumes, a leader trying to find balance, or someone ready to live more consciously, my work is here to meet you where you are — and walk with you toward a calmer, more rooted life.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was curious, sensitive, and deeply connected. A little girl who could feel everything.
I was the one who noticed energy before I even knew what to call it. who felt when something was off in a room, who wanted everyone to feel safe and seen. I believed in people’s goodness, in the healing power of love, in the quiet strength that comes from kindness.
It took motherhood, exhaustion, and heart-palpitating anxiety to bring me back to myself using healing modalities like acupuncture, energy work, and support.
Today, I’ve come full circle. The work I do through sleep consulting, holistic healing, and energy work is really about helping others remember who they were before the world told them who to be. Because that version? The one who’s curious, kind, and in tune, that’s the truest one.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were many times I almost gave up and the key word there is almost.
Every time I hit that point where I thought, I can’t do this anymore, something inside me would remind me: let’s pause and realign.
When I first left corporate and opened my pediatric sleep practice, I thought I was stepping into my dream career, one that would let me do meaningful work, support families, and still have time with my own kids. But what I didn’t realize was how emotionally intense it would be.
Many of the families I worked with were highly sensitive parents who couldn’t bear to hear their baby cry, even for a moment. I understood that deeply, but I wasn’t prepared for how much support they would need. I’d be on the phone three or four times a day, walking them through every step, holding space for their emotions, often neglecting my own.
There were days I’d hang up the phone, look at the clock, and realize I hadn’t even eaten let alone spent quality time with my own children. And because I hadn’t yet set clear boundaries or pricing that reflected the depth of my work, I was giving everything I had and barely making enough to keep going.
In those moments, I thought, Maybe I made a mistake. Maybe I should go back. Maybe this isn’t sustainable.
So, I asked for help from God, from the universe, from my higher self. And that’s when I was guided to someone who would change everything a colleague who became my teacher, my coach, and now a dear friend. She helped me see my gifts clearly for the first time and led me toward the deeper layers of my calling: Reiki, Akashic Records, energy work.
Each new modality became a mirror showing me where I still held old patterns, limiting beliefs, and generational imprints that no longer fit. It was like I’d been wearing the same heavy coat my entire life, one made from other people’s expectations, and suddenly, I was taking it off. For a while, I felt exposed, unsure of who I was without it. That’s what deep transformation feels like. You shed what’s familiar before you step into what’s true.
So yes, there were moments I wanted to give up. But I realized I didn’t need to quit I needed to pause.
Pausing isn’t giving up. It’s choosing presence over panic. It’s the sacred space where everything you’re learning can integrate. And in that pause, clarity always comes. From there, you can move forward not from fear, but from alignment.
Every “almost” moment was really an invitation not to stop, but to grow.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I’ve never been a fan of fads, especially the trendy kind that come and go. Even back in high school, when everyone rushed to buy whatever was “in,” I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I might pick up one piece here or there, but only if I knew it would last, something timeless, not something I’d wear once.

That mindset has followed me into everything I do today. I’ve never been someone who follows the crowd. I’ve always had a mind of my own, and I make decisions by following my heart, not the hype.

And honestly, that matters more than ever now, especially in business and marketing. There’s always a new “hack,” a new trend, a shiny shortcut promising overnight success. But real growth, in life, in business, in healing, doesn’t come from chasing what’s trending. It comes from staying true to your values, being consistent, and doing the inner work that actually creates lasting change.

Fads fade. Foundations evolve. I’d rather build something that lasts than chase something that’s loud.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
That’s something I’ve actually been thinking about a lot lately — identity. Who am I, really, if I lay down my name, my roles, and everything I’ve built?

Because when someone asked me that once, I started listing all these things. I’m a mom, a practitioner, a coach, a creator, and I realized… those are all things I do, not who I am.

If I set all of that down, what would remain is me: my heart, my energy, my intention. The part of me that loves deeply, that sees people, that wants to make others feel safe and understood. The part that’s curious and kind, that’s been here since I was little.

At my core, I’m someone who creates calm, in homes, in hearts, and within myself. That’s what would stay, even if all the titles went away.

And I think that’s what legacy really is. not what you leave behind on paper, but the feeling people carry after they’ve known you. I want mine to be peace, presence, and love.
