Caroline Rayman of Charleston on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Caroline Rayman shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Caroline , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Who are you learning from right now?
We are currently being mentored by Caroline Moluf. She helps small businesses navigate their growth through a system called EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System).

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The Social Spool is a custom textile provider who is dedicated to elevating guest’s experience through the transformation of spaces. Our women run team consists of 4 girls – Leigh Warren, Caroline Rayman, Jordan Lessley, and Amanda Niering. We’ve been in business for 8 years and what sets us apart for our competition is our efficient processes, customizable designs, and unmatched dedication to our clients.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
We have all been in the event industry for a number of years and learned the different aspects of the event industry that brought us to where we are today. From the food and beverage industry, venue sales, and various design roles, we’ve learned the skills to keep us innovative and professional team players with a strong work ethic!

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Being in the event industry, we are subject to lots of challenging situations (weather, last minute venue changes, etc). But our team is know for being innovative problem solvers who always go through extra mile to ensure the client’s vision is met.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
We work hand in hand with a lot of our industry partners. Our favorite way to collaborate is to get us all in the same room to come up with the best design as a team. This helps us also talk through the logistics of how we are able to pull over designs through the multiple layers.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When have you had to bet the company?
A difficult time in the event industry was during Covid. Events had stopped in the Charleston area so we had to pivot to keep our company afloat. We produced custom face masks. This got us through this tough time and was also a great introduction to new markets of our custom sewing abilities.
