Charles Berger of Downtown on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Charles Berger shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Charles, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, I spend as much time as possible with my wife and our three kids. The whole family loves billiards, all of us natural born hustlers, so most nights you’ll find us around the pool table. We also draw, paint, walk the dogs, throw the frisbee, and discuss the intricacies of life. I feel my most important mission while I’m here is to make the best memories possible for the people in my life, especially my kids.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Charles Berger, founder and creative director of Arcane Arrangements, a gothic and Victorian-inspired floral and event design studio. My work blends dark romanticism, occult symbolism, and elevated fine-art styling—creating immersive atmospheres for weddings, installations, and large-scale events around the world.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I feel like the relationship with my wife and children has shaped how I see myself as a man, and an artist. They have given me the motivation and drive to keep going, no matter how dark things get.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been a few times where I almost gave up. I have resorted to some very unhealthy coping mechanisms in the past, but each hard lesson has gotten me closer to the person I strive to be.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my Father for his unwavering character and morals. He’s always been a strong role model for me, and has taught me more than he knows.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that the memories of me are filled with laughter and kindness. I would rather my children remember me as someone who was always willing to help others, than just a good businessman.
