Scott Stewart is redefining success by prioritizing alignment over opportunity, stepping away from a major tour to stay true to his artistic identity and long-term vision. Grounded in faith and fueled by authenticity, he’s doubling down on building Blacktop Rodeo into a high-energy, genre-blending force with both regional roots and national ambition. By embracing strategic branding, meaningful partnerships, and purpose-driven creativity, Scott is crafting not just a music career, but a legacy built to resonate far beyond fleeting trends.
Scott, stepping away from a promising tour is a tough decision. What ultimately gave you the clarity to choose alignment over opportunity?
Stepping away from the planned 2026 tour was not a decision made lightly, but it was ultimately the right one, and importantly, it was a mutual decision built on respect and clarity from both sides. As conversations progressed and the creative direction became more defined, it became clear that the overall vision of the tour did not fully align with my artistic identity or long-term goals as a performer.
My foundation as a drummer has always been rooted in high-energy, explosive country, rock, and metal music performances that are dynamic, modern, and built to engage audiences at a high level night after night. The tour, while professionally structured and filled with talented individuals, leaned more heavily into a nostalgia-based format, centered primarily around 1970s country with a limited number of original compositions. While there is tremendous value and appreciation for that era of music, it didn’t fully reflect the direction I am currently pursuing as an artist.
Rather than forcing a fit that wasn’t completely authentic, I made the intentional choice to stay true to my roots and the style of performance that has defined my career and continues to resonate most with audiences. That level of authenticity is something I believe fans can feel immediately, and it’s essential to maintaining both artistic integrity and long-term growth.
At the same time, this transition has reinforced just how meaningful my role with Blacktop Rodeo truly is. What we’ve built within that group goes far beyond music; it’s a family environment made up of driven, passionate individuals who are committed to elevating every aspect of the performance and brand. There’s a shared vision, a collective work ethic, and a genuine belief in where we’re headed.
Blacktop Rodeo continues to grow, not only in reach but in the quality and intensity of what we bring to the stage. Being part of a team that is steadily pushing toward higher levels of performance, expanding into new markets, and creating original music that reflects who we are today is something I value deeply. It’s the kind of environment that fuels creativity, sharpens execution, and keeps the focus on building something lasting.
In the end, stepping away wasn’t about closing a door; it was about choosing the right path forward. One that aligns with my identity as a musician, supports the momentum we’re building, and keeps me fully invested in a project that feels both authentic and exciting for the future.
You’ve shifted focus to Blacktop Rodeo. How would you describe the sound, identity, and story you’re building with the band right now?
Blacktop Rodeo delivers a high-energy country sound with a strong rock influence. Each member brings a distinct musical style and background, which creates a dynamic blend that is difficult to define within a single genre. This versatility allows the band to naturally resonate across rock, country, and even pop audiences, offering something that appeals to a wide range of listeners.
While Blacktop Rodeo has built a solid reputation throughout the Kentucky market, the vision moving forward is to expand the name and brand on a much larger scale. With the strength of our sound, growing catalog of original music, and continued focus on performance and promotion, I am confident in our ability to reach broader audiences and achieve meaningful, long-term success.
You’re taking a more active role in branding and strategy. How has that changed the way you approach building a music career in today’s landscape?
Social media has become an essential pillar of a successful music career in today’s market. The traditional model of selling physical albums and hoping for mainstream breakthrough success has largely been replaced by streaming platforms and the power of viral digital content. As the industry continues to evolve, adapting to these trends is no longer optional; it is critical for sustained growth and relevance.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work closely with several respected drum and music brands, building partnerships that extend far beyond simple endorsements. These collaborations have demonstrated the value of consistent content, authentic storytelling, and strategic audience engagement. By aligning with brands that reflect my identity as an artist, I have been able to create mutually beneficial relationships that drive visibility, credibility, and measurable results.
I have applied this same approach in helping grow Blacktop Rodeo, focusing on identifying and collaborating with strong regional brands that share a similar audience and cultural alignment. Kentucky, in particular, offers a rich landscape of established and emerging brands, making it an ideal foundation for building meaningful, community-driven partnerships. These local collaborations allow us to create authentic connections, generate cross-promotional opportunities, and strengthen our presence both on stage and online.
While local partnerships serve as a powerful starting point, the broader vision extends far beyond regional markets. By leveraging proven digital strategies and scalable content, we are positioning Blacktop Rodeo to expand these partnerships nationally, building a brand that resonates across multiple markets while maintaining the authenticity that drives real audience engagement.
Faith plays a central role in your journey, how does it influence both your creative process and the decisions you make professionally?
Faith has become more than a personal belief system in my 2025–2026 journey; it has become the foundation that guides how I create, perform, lead, and make decisions both on and off the stage.
Over the past year, I’ve experienced several defining moments that required clarity and conviction. Stepping away from opportunities that didn’t fully align, including the 2026 tour, was not just a career decision, it was a faith-driven one. It reinforced my commitment to staying grounded in who I am as an artist and as a person. Instead of chasing visibility for its own sake, I chose to follow a path with purpose. That kind of direction comes from something deeper, and for me, that’s faith.
Creatively, my faith has sharpened my voice and my intention. It has influenced not only what I play, but why I play. Whether I’m behind the kit with Blacktop Rodeo or performing in worship settings, there is a consistent sense of purpose in every note. My playing is no longer just about energy or execution; it’s about connection, emotion, and serving the moment. Faith has helped me strip away the unnecessary and focus on authenticity, which has elevated both my sound and my presence on stage.
It has also opened new creative doors. Being involved in worship environments has expanded my versatility and deepened my musical sensitivity. I’ve developed a stronger appreciation for dynamics, space, and feel, and those elements have carried over into my country work as well. With Blacktop Rodeo, I’m not just performing songs, I’m helping create experiences that people can feel and connect with.
Professionally, my faith influences how I lead and how I build relationships. In my role managing teams and operations, it shows up in my focus on integrity, accountability, and service. I’ve placed a greater emphasis on developing people, recognizing effort, and building a culture centered on respect and growth. That same mindset carries into my music career, especially when it comes to partnerships and endorsements. I’m not just looking for opportunities, I’m building relationships that align with my values and vision.
Faith has also given me resilience. Both the music industry and leadership roles come with uncertainty and constant change. Faith provides a steady foundation in those moments. It allows me to move forward with confidence, even when outcomes are not guaranteed. Instead of reacting impulsively, I approach challenges with patience and perspective, trusting that the right opportunities will align with the work I’m putting in.
Looking ahead into 2026, my direction is clearer than ever. My focus on original music, my commitment to Blacktop Rodeo, my continued involvement in worship settings, and my growing role in production and promotion are all aligned. Faith is not separate from these pursuits; it is woven into every part of them. It’s shaping how I build my brand, how I connect with audiences, and the kind of impact I want to leave.
Ultimately, faith has transformed my journey from simply building a career into building something that truly matters. It’s no longer just about playing more shows or gaining exposure, it’s about purpose, authenticity, and making a lasting impact. That shift has defined this chapter of my life in a way that nothing else has before.
For artists facing similar crossroads, what advice would you give about choosing long-term purpose over short-term opportunities?
For anyone looking to advance in the music business, I strongly recommend staying true to yourself and seeking meaningful partnerships with fellow musicians and brands to build a strong sense of community. For anyone pursuing any type of career in music, it’s all about the long game. Great short-term opportunities will come along, but if they don’t align with your growth and vision, they can do more harm than good in the long run.
My focus is on creating music that lasts for decades on someone’s playlist, not just chasing a one-hit moment where songs fade after a few weeks or months. Trends can be powerful, but when you pour your true soul into your work, it has a way of connecting with people in a lasting and meaningful way.
