Dale Arenson’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We recently had the chance to connect with Dale Arenson and have shared our conversation below.

Dale, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Who are you learning from right now?
Dr. Wayne Dyer, Living the Wisdom of the Tao.
Joseph Campbell, The Hero’s Journey.
Don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements.
Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
As a retired airline pilot, after winning four world championships in rifle competition, I have been spending my time writing exciting memoirs.

Having started from an unusual background of a broken home, and a high school dropout, as a teenager and young adult, I rode with an outlaw motorcycle club and had numerous run-ins with the law.

After turning my life around, I learned to fly and became a commercial pilot the hard way, eventually getting hired by a major airline.

My books, depicting that lifestyle, are intended not only to entertain but to inspire people to follow their dreams.

Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
A small group of entrepreneurs in Alaska who welcomed me into their midst.

I had been a biker and was not yet a pilot, but they saw something in me that helped me to believe in myself.

That was fifty years ago, and I am still in touch with some of them today.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
My parents splitting up, and my mother’s mental illness.

What helped was my father’s stability.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
The project of my writing is to inspire people to live their lives to the utmost and to follow their dreams.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I have given everything I’ve done my best.

My father used to tell me that old saying, “Any job worth doing is worth doing well.”

I’ve been successful in several fields, I think, because of that.
