Dalmeda Carson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Dalmeda, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Lately, I’ve ben drawn to start a group for house music lovers in my state. I really enjoy this genre of music because its all about dancing and freedom. House music can be describrd as a spirtual thing, a soul thing that does not care about race or sex just movment to the beat.
A new study was published that states those who listen to house music age slower. I want others to experience the joy of this music and bring DJ’s into the state so everyone can expeirence.
A couple of years ago, I recenlty moved and though I was the only person who liked house music. Turns out as I’m getting to know more people who enjoy the sound of house. I want us to have a place where we can come togheter, dance and enjoy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello all,
My brand Dalmeda Designs specializing in unique, sustainable, and easy usability jewelry. Utilizing a creative mix of recycled glass, wires, leathers, and other media for bold, savvy defying jewelry.
I got started learning how to make jewelry quite by accident. While in fashion school someone did a quick demo and I became hooked wanting to learn more. I truly enjoy figuring out how things work by using different crystals, colors, or reusing glass to make jewelry.
Lately, Ive been focusing on making pieces that are effortless to put such as incorporating magnets as closures for a “slip-on” easy access feel.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that would play small and be quiet. From a child I was always more concerned about other people’s feelings than my own. I made sure to choose my words based on how others might react.
Life experiences have taught me to not dim myself and the presence of my light is louder than anything I can say. I’m no longer responsible for how others may feel when I speak my truth especially when I know it comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I almost gave up my business. Transitioning from turning my hobby into an online business took a lot more of my time and resources than I realized. I had to learn new things quickly like how to put together a website, pricing, and creating social media content. It felt overwhelming and discouraging as my engagement and sales weren’t what I thought they would be. I think a lot of people have this idea when they create something it will be instant success. Whereas, it takes time and continued dedication.
But then I would see photos of someone who bought my jewelry or they’d really liked it and tell me how many compliments they received. It made me realize that even if I move slow and steady I’ll eventually get to the finish line, so never give up. Enjoy the process of learning and keep redefining my vision of success. Being able to create something that makes someone feel special is success to me.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That beauty is about what is what you wear or how you look but about loving yourself. When someone feels confident in themselves and realizes even the most inexpensive outfit can make you feel like a millionaire is what true beauty is all about. I notice so many people focus on their outward appearance but don’t work on building confidence which only can begin when you love yourself. Not like yourself for what you have but love yourself for who you are even when others are not giving you the applause. It’s okay to be unique, embrace who you are and don’t let labels define who you are.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel at peace when I’m creating. To make something new out of nothing is very satisfying to me. To look at my beads, wire, or cords and create a wearable item fascinates me every time. Those times when I think of a design and it executes exactly as I had imagined is a special moment. Selecting the beads, colors, or deciding on what size I should make a new piece makes me feel satisfied.
