Dan Shaw of Gainesville Florida on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Dan Shaw and have shared our conversation below.

Dan, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity. Without integrity, what’s the point of any success you achieve.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dan Shaw, and I am an agent with Florida Farm Bureau Insurance. I specialize in Home, Auto, Business, and Life Insurance. My business was built on three core values: Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect. Every decision and recommendation we make we reference our core values. I strive to be the best example for my five amazing children, Lilly, Abby, Dawson, Ben and Brady.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My wife Nicole. 100% I would not be where I am today without her by my side. I used to work in the hospitality industry and missed everything with my kids. She pushed me to pursue a new career in the Insurance industry and I am beyond thankful she did. This has been the best blessing for all of us.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
There is a plan. Hindsight is an amazing thing. Every decision you make in life leads you right where you are supposed to be. I can trace back to a moment where I flipped a coin to move to either Boston or North Carolina. Two months later I was living in North Carolina. With in a year, I met my wife. A few years later we found ourselves moving to Florida to raise our family. I would not be here today if I didn’t flip the coin and take a risk.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I try to always be as genuine as possible. I don’t see a value in misleading people. I am an open book and always happy to share my experiences with anyone, especially if it can help them grow. My core values are not just for my business, its how I try to live my life daily.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
There is nothing better than watching your children thrive in anything they are doing. School, sports, or arts, watching them put in the effort to grow and strive to be the best they can be, is unbeatable. I am very lucky to have the ability to attend these events and show them the support they deserve.
