Daniel Narcisse of New York City on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Daniel Narcisse. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle with failure! I’m doing so by focusing on success! Instead of worrying about the what if’s, I’m more concerned with the how can i progress!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello my name is Daniel Narcisse but most know me by my stage name DJ McLovin. I’m an international open format DJ, Mc, and Producer. I think my open minded versatility in the world of music is what makes me interesting. I love combining elements of different genres of music from around the world and bridging them together. Being able to spread and share the love and bring culture together by using what i feel is one of the best ways to bring people together. I originally started in music when I was younger playing instruments. Then i discovered the art of being a DJ and grew to love being able to play so much more as a DJ versus one at a time on an instrument and being able to manipulate music in a more fun way as a DJ. currently I’m working on just trying to grow my name and reach a wider audience and be able to curate a movement that i can take around the world and tour as well as collaborate with like minded creatives. Hopefully i get to produce events around the world where people would see that just because you come from here or there we are still apart of one world and unity should be promoted more.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
When I was in high school I went to volunteer at an event that my friend had put me on to and while being there I met someone who became a huge inspiration and mentor to me over the years. He owns a entertainment company which I still love working for to this day called Paparazzi Entertainment. He has taught me so much and has groomed me to become more proficient in my craft as well as understanding how the industry works better. I owe a lot of my evolving to him and his wisdom and guiding me to be where I am at today.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If i had the ability to do so I would tell myself you are going to do more than you imagined and amaze others but mostly yourself, just remember to give yourself a pat on the back more. It’s important to give yourself credit for working hard and enjoying the fruits of your labor as it is a healthy part of growth and success as well as being grateful as nothing is owed to anyone.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Being filtered is not a specialty of mine so genuinely what you see is what you get. It’s extra work having to be someone or portraying something I’m not so authenticity plays a big role in who I am as a person whether I am on stage or in the crowds.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I would like to be remembered as a bridge. Someone who bridged the gaps and changed perceptions for the better and made a difference in doing what he was best at. I hope now when I do public or private events I leave people with a memory that will be cherished and just to be apart of it is a privilege and honor. With that I will say this, a person is never truly gone if they lived a life worth remembering.
