Danielle Klein shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Danielle, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiplies when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I love waking up and seeing my 16 year old dog sleeping in her dog bed. She is so precious and I am so grateful to have her in my life. Since she is 16, I sometimes grieve the loss of her even though she’s still here. This morning I woke up with tears in my eyes because I know she won’t always be here like this in physical form. I am cherishing these moments with her as much as I can. My mornings aren’t always perfect. Some days, I start on my phone by checking emails and DMs. Sometimes I get a “download” and write out an entire social media post or guided meditation that just effortlessly flows out of me. Other days, I’m more intentional and I take a few moments to connect with my energy, reflect on what I’m grateful for and play my singing bowls and instruments. I love taking my dog for a walk too as it helps me connect with nature, move my body, clear my mind and be in gratitude that I still get to do this with her.
I have learned that for me at least… it’s not about being perfect with routines… it’s about awareness and coming back to what helps me feel grounded, calm and aligned when life gets busy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Danielle Klein. I am a sound artist, teacher and creator of The Sound & Energy Academy: The Sound Healing Course, sound healing instrument distributor and I am a big mental health advocate. My background as a yoga instructor, meditation teacher, ThetaHealing practitioner and taking yoga philosophy, music theory and music composition classes in college has helped me blend the science and energy work to teach a comprehensive sound healing course. My sound bath sessions are intentionally curated down to every detail. From the types of instruments I play, and when, and how, to the way I guide a meditation and the words I choose to take you on a visualization journey … to the mindful energy I send out to those receiving the session. Everything is curated with love and care. Sound healing is profound. It influences our brainwaves, heart rate, breathing patterns, metabolism and other body functions in a good way. Sound baths often bring you from a fight or flight stress response to a calm and peaceful state. They can ease pain and depression, soothe the nervous system, relieve anxiety and realign us to the frequency of unconditional love, gratitude and deep relaxation.
After navigating my own struggles with stress and depression, I discovered how sound transforms not only the nervous system but also the subconscious mind and the energy we carry. Sound healing has changed my life and inspired me to share this modality with others.
Today, I guide and mentor future sound practitioners, teaching them how to create powerful, intentional sound bath experiences that go far beyond simply playing pretty instruments. With mental health challenges on the rise in the world, I believe this work is needed now more than ever, and my mission is to empower others to share it with their communities.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Wow, I absolutely love this question! Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a curious, creative and expressive person who loved music, art and the magic of life and nature. I felt things deeply and always knew there was more to life than what was on the surface. I was fascinated by sound and music, loved painting, arts and crafts and was always an entrepreneur. From creating and selling bracelets in my front yard, setting up “stores” in my bedroom for my Mom to “buy” things, to selling lemonade… I always had that ambition to create and do whatever I wanted.
As I grew older, the world’s “shoulds” started creeping in: you should have a stable career, with health care and benefits, climb the ladder, follow rules, be successful, etc. I went to college and studied business and economics, and followed the “right” path. I worked in real estate, the financial industry, sales and marketing. On paper, I was doing everything society told me I “should” be doing, but I was miserable. I started to get really depressed working in offices with bright florescent lights, constant meetings, cubicles and rigid routines.
Through that depression, I felt that the Universe was trying to be louder and louder with its message for me to explore a different direction with my life. I had a strong nudge to explore health and wellness and to truly help people, and that’s when I dove deeper into yoga, meditation and sound healing.
In many ways, sound healing has brought me back to my original, whole, truest self. To that girl who loved music, creativity and freedom. And now, I get to share her gifts with the world and help others reconnect to their own magic too.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there were definitely moments when I cried, got angry and almost gave up. Being an entrepreneur ins’t always rainbows and butterflies. You have to be your own biggest cheerleader. You have to train yourself to have the motivation to wake up every day and do things that are hard or challenging, even when no one is watching or acknowledging your efforts.
In the first few years of running my own business, I often wondered, “Is anyone even hearing my message?” “Do people care about what I’m sharing?” I had moments of doubt where I thought, “What if no one invests in what I’m offering?” “What if I have to go back to a corporate job, working for someone else?”
Entrepreneurship comes with financial, emotional and creative risks. Putting money into your business feels vulnerable because you never know if it will work out in the end… will it actually be worth it? And then there’s the judgment from others. The online world can be harsh. People can be cruel, sometimes mocking others who are simply following their passions and sharing their gifts. It’s hurtful, and it’s sad to see.
Whenever I feel fear creeping in, I reminded myself of the alternative. The misery of working in a cubicle under fluorescent lights, feeling depressed, unfulfilled and trapped. I shift my mindset to gratitude, for the privilege of starting my own business, for being a woman with the freedom to create my life on my own terms. Yes, there are ebbs and flows. Some months will have fewer clients than others but when you stay consistent, reconnect with your “why,” lead with integrity and intention and stay aligned with your mission… momentum builds. Abundance starts to flow.
I also remind myself often of this perspective: there is someone out there waiting for my sound bath, my message, the unique way of sharing my work that will positively change their life. And that is a powerful anchor that keeps me going.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest myths is that you need a red-colored singing bowl tuned to a specific frequency to heal your root chakra. There’s a lot of marketing out there trying to sell a product or a specific way of thinking, but that’s not how true healing works.
A lot of advertisements on the internet try to sell a chakra set of singing bowls that is 7 whole notes. But in the music world, not all of those notes will create harmony together. Playing all 7 bowls in a “chakra set” will in fact create dissonance. Although we have a lot of information available to us on the internet, not everything is leading you in the most accurate direction.
The chakra system (aka energy centers in the body) according to yogic philosophy doesn’t say that only a certain color or frequency will fix a particular ailment in your mind or body. What really matters is your intention, your presence and the way you mindfully hold and send out energy. Your voice, humming, singing, mantras, vowel sounds, breathwork, yoga asanas, etc, can all contribute to moving and shifting energy.
Some people may believe that the facilitator of the sound bath is the healer or guru. I believe that in a sound healing session, you are helping people unlock and activate their own innate ability to heal. You are not the healer or the guru. Your role is to create an experience and cultivate an atmosphere that allows people to soothe their nervous system, entrain their brain waves into deep relaxation and tap into their own healing abilities. True transformation comes from guiding them to access what’s already within themselves.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes, when I first started teaching my Sound Healing Course, my goal was to get as many people as possible to sign up. But over time, I realized that true fulfillment doesn’t come from filling spots, it comes from cultivating the right energy within the group.
Because this is a live, interactive virtual training, I’m not looking for people who just want to “complete” another certification. I’m looking for those who feel genuinely called to this work. Students who are eager to learn, show up with presence and put real effort into their growth. What matters most to me now is attracting students who are passionate, curious and devoted to embodying what they learn. Those who respect the sacredness of sound healing and feel inspired to share it within their communities.
While having a large class can be exciting, the deepest satisfaction comes from working with students who are truly invested. The ones who want to make a meaningful impact through this work. I pour so much of my energy and intention into each student’s journey, because their transformation is my greatest reward.
