Darrell Black discusses Creating Minds by Howard Gardner

We’re excited to chat with Darrell Black about Creating Minds. Check out our conversation below.

Darrell, it’s so good to be connecting again, this time to discuss one of your favorite books. So – let’s jump right in, can you tell us about creating minds – what should our readers know about this book?
The book “Creating Minds” portrays seven great minds of the 20th century and how the creative process helps to influence their actions and decisions. The book makes a strong argument of the correlation between creativity and innovation in multiple disciplines that results in revolutionary ideas and inventions for betterment of society.

Wonderful, so can you talk to us in more detail about why this book resonates with you?
I find “Creating Minds” very interesting since many of the creatives featured in this book all have many of the same attributes, self-doubt and emotional struggle on the path to achieve greatness and recognition in society. This matters because without innovation, sacrifice and risk taking civilization can never move forward to a state of self-awareness and universal understanding.

After reading the book, if you had to boil it down to one key take-away, what would it be?
Without risk and a willingness to sacrifice everyone and everything in your life greatness is unattainable.

How did you discover this book?
Researching books on creativity.
