Delilah Dominguez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Delilah , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I am very proud of my morning routine! It has taken a lot of practice for me to perfect. Starting my morning off slow and intentional has been very beneficial to my health. It also helps me set the tone for the day ahead. Upon waking up I’m immediately greeted by my cat! After a quick stretch and making the bed we head to the kitchen. I feed her breakfast while I heat up a cup of bone broth. I then take my first round of supplements and medications. I have lupus and find it helpful to start the day with anti-inflammatory supplements and herbs for support through out the day. I then take a hot shower, get dressed and make breakfast. I try to do all this before opening my phone to respond to emails or text messages. Once I’m ready to take on the day I jump in to my to-do list which I usually prep the night before. Some days this routine is slower, some days faster. I always make sure to pour into myself first before I pour into anything else.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Delilah Dominguez, Im a 36 year old Latina born and raised in Brooklyn New York. I am a florist with over a decade of experience and I own Stolen Magnolia. Stolen Magnolia is a floral studio and plant shop rooted in creativity and connection. We design lush, bespoke floral arrangements, curate vibrant houseplants, and offer spiritual goods that nurture both space and soul. It’s a place where beauty, nature, and meaning come together. My work focuses on creating thoughtful floral designs that connect people to beauty, nature, and celebration.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I don’t believe there is one single moment that has really shaped how I see the world. Instead it’s a collection of moments that have shaped how I see the world. The world is abundant and filled with opportunity. Together we are always growing and changing for the better. Even when it seems difficult or painful. Each of life’s lessons leads us into new experiences. These experiences will test us in so many ways. It will test our faith, courage, strength and discipline. If you believe the world is beautiful you will always find beauty.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Just now, I suppose. I have never openly admitted to the pain I experience while dealing with autoimmunity. I was diagnosed with Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2023 and I have been on a journey of healing since. Aside from physical pain the greatest pain I experienced was shame. I didn’t want anyone to know my health struggles and think I was not capable in brining their vision to life. With my health on the line I had to be more selective with the work I took on. Lupus has taught me many things. It has taught me to say no and often. It has taught me how to be more present and intentional. The importance of listening to your body and most importantly it has taught me that there is power in pain. I don’t have to hide my pain in fear that I will be considered less than. I have an incredible support system to help me through moments of pain. My process is different and I am grateful. I want others who are struggling with autoimmunity to know that it is possible to have a full and beautiful life. It may look different from your old life and that’s ok.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to believing that there is growth, love and safety in community. I believe that it is important to show up for your community. Something as small as giving away children’s books or collecting donations for other community organizations can help your community in a big way.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
There is no doubt in my mind that I am doing what I was born to do. Flowers have always had a way of brining joy and ease. The ability to evoke and convey emotions using flowers is a gift. I feel so lucky to have a career that allows me to do so and still be creative and inspiring to others.
