Although I studied communications in college and managed multiple publications over the next two decades, it wasn’t until I started volunteering for Pete Buttigieg’s primary campaign in 2019 that I found my voice and learned how to communicate effectively. What I found was that when I spoke about issues and policies they didn’t land; but when I shared stories of how a specific issue had impacted my family, people were receptive and eager to talk about their own family’s challenges. As a beauty professional, effective communication is crucial for understanding clients’ needs and delivering the desired results. A few ways I developed this skill was by actively listening and paying close attention to clients’ preferences and concerns. This helped build trust with my client and ensured I understood their vision. As an artist you want to give clear explanations the articulating processes, product benefits, and aftercare instructions in a straightforward manner helps clients feel informed and confident that they will be able to take care of the work. I also believe that offering a level of empathy can offer effective communication being empathetic allows you to connect with clients on a personal level, making them feel valued and understood; especially when your working within the realm of beauty. Emma: We decided to start this endeavor pretty organically – we threw our first event without thinking that it would turn into a business, but it allowed us to discover how much we enjoy working together.
