We recently had the chance to connect with Douli and have shared our conversation below.
Douli, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: When was the last time you felt true joy?
Recently, winning a championship game in my hometown. This was a great moment for the city. The joy was mainly from witnessing the peace and smiles on everyone in the building. The unity and energy was beautiful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ll re-introduce myself; I’m Mr. Abdouli. Born at Grady Hospital, I am a representative for the southside of ATL. TOURAY KUNDA™ is the versatile brand that serves the community. It’s on the rise and catching buzz. I always felt I’m a unique individual. Many have tried to put me in a box, but it never works. We get more into that later in this interview.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with the Most High has shaped who I am today. During my darkest moments in life, many individuals revealed their true colors. At this point of my life, overcoming variety of obstacles it’s proven he’s forever with me.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Experiencing homelessness and being betrayed by close ones, were big game changers for myself.
There were many other wounds which came from abandonment from my mother, heartbreaks, lust addiction, intoxicants, living the fast life, loss of businesses and poverty. This my truth.
Many people never recover from these experiences. I’ve overcome and this is my first time bringing these silent battles to the surface. MY STORY DESERVES TO BE SHARED GLOBALLY!!!!
So much work was put in to heal from these struggles. During processing, a lot of solitude. I would have many moments just spending time with myself. I started focusing on self-improvement, writing poetry, reading books, praying, lot of gym work and playing basketball again. It seems all the pain was slowly transforming into passions and hobbies.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
“Anything I want, I can have it”. “The Most High is REAL”. “As long as you never give up, your time will come!”
The evidence is loud and clear in my life.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What light inside you have you been dimming?
Haha, being “Unapologetically Douli” ! I would sometimes play down myself to not feel like a threat to people insecurities. But, the shift is here, you know. I went through the dark storm and fire, I’m not here to please everybody. My light will shine with no apologies. Respectfully
