Drew Boatright & Hailey Devers on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Drew Boatright & Hailey Devers. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Drew & Hailey, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me usually begins around 6:30 a.m. I get ready and head to my day job, where I work as a Research Lab Analyst. Once I’m off around 4, I come home and switch gears to focus on Drew’s Soaps – whether that’s making new batches, packing orders, or brainstorming new ideas. After that, I like to unwind with a nice walk with my amazing wife, then we typically have dinner, play with our cats, and relax a little before calling it a night.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey there! I’m Drew, and alongside my wife Hailey, we’re the proud owners of Drew’s Soaps. Our story began in 2022 when we started making handmade soaps as Christmas gifts for friends and family. What began as a fun little project quickly turned into a busy (and incredibly rewarding) side hustle, and we’ve loved every step of the journey.
Drawing on my background in Chemistry, I handcraft each of our products using natural, skin-loving ingredients you can truly feel good about. Every bar and bottle is made by hand, in small batches, right here in Downtown Savannah.

At Drew’s Soaps, transparency and honesty are at the heart of everything we do. We’re always happy to share our process and ingredients because we take real pride in our all-natural approach. Each formula is made with organic, safe raw materials that deliver deep nourishment, hydration, and care – without the irritation that often comes from mass-produced products.

Our carefully balanced essential oil blends create a gentle and rejuvenating experience for even the most sensitive skin. With every product, our goal is simple: to make something you’ll love using – and something your skin will thank you for.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad was the most influential person in teaching me about work from an early age. Growing up, I always saw him as the hardest-working person I knew, and to this day, he still is. He never complained or seemed unhappy, no matter how long or challenging the day was. Watching his dedication and discipline shaped the way I approach work and taught me the value of persistence, responsibility, and pride in what you do. I’m incredibly grateful for the example he set, and his influence continues to guide my work ethic every day.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could tell my younger self one kind thing, it would be this: Keep going – it truly does get better. When you’re just starting out, it’s easy to feel lost, uncertain, or like the road ahead is too steep. There were times I felt overwhelmed and unsure if I could keep pushing forward. But looking back now, I see how every challenge led me somewhere worthwhile. Sometimes you have to take that next step, even when it’s hard, because that’s when the most amazing things start to happen. I am living proof of that!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the skincare/body-care industry is the idea that if an ingredient is “natural”, it’s automatically safe to use on your skin. That’s just not the case. Take baking soda, for example, it’s often used in natural deodorants and while it’s not inherently harmful, it can cause extreme irritation for a lot of people. That’s exactly why we choose to not include it in our products. Just because something is considered “safe” in one context doesn’t mean it’s right for every application or every skin type. At Drew’s Soaps, we focus on gentle, effective ingredients that truly care for your skin – not just ones that sound good on a label.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m outdoors with my newlywed wife on a chilly, sunny day. We love being outdoors, soaking up all the beauty nature has to offer. That would definitely be where we feel most at peace!
