Eddie Jelinet of Los Angeles on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Eddie Jelinet and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Eddie, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
As an Artist I feel proud that I have build a signature stamp for my work, when people look at my work they recognize my style and signature in my art.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an Artist, muralist and filmmaker, I use different mediums to produce my work. I see myself as a surrealist artist,
I like juxtaposing unexpected forms in imaginative ways.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I think the relationship that can shape who you are is definitely the relationship with yourself. I think for every human being it is good to practice the mirror reflection, that means look at yourself and see your virtues and your defects, knowing your fears and insecurities and embracing them. That will help you have a better understanding of who you are. There are things you can change, but you have to learn how to have a healthy relationship with the ones you can’t change because the both part or you.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
NEVER! When I really have passion for something, the option to give up doesn’t exist for me. Something people might not know about me is I am constantly working on something new to challenge myself with. I have been training myself as an artist to be able to complete a mural in one day, yes one day!
I start in the early morning and work all day till very late at night, only taking a small break to eat, and I am able to finish most murals in the same day. Its something that you have to train yourself to come up with, the technique that allows you to work that fast while keeping the quality of a mural that can take up to 2 weeks for some people to accomplish. Not a lot of artists can do that. Passion goes hand in hand with hardwork.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
Definitely RELIGION. I really think that the concept of God presented by religion cannot be further apart from my understanding of what God really is.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I really hope that when I’m gone people remember me as someone that saw the beauty of life,
that when they see my art they see a manifesto of the beauty of life,
that’s what art is.
