We recently had the chance to connect with Emmanuel Payne and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Emmanuel , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
For the first 90 minutes of my day ,I usually meditate and set my intentions for my day before I get out of bed .Then brush my teeth and shower before I get my daughters ready in the morning with their morning hygiene and make them breakfast. After that I try to get a workout in ,then I’m ready to get to work
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Emmanuel Payne, I’m a digital cartoonist ,I specialize in creating “art experiences” where I draw along with audiences either live or virtually .I also currently work with brand owners turning their brand stories into cartoons/comics usually to help their brands reach younger audiences.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me the most about work .I remember being in 2 nd grade and when most kids got to sleep in and watch Saturday morning cartoons,I was usually up going to help my father with his side jobs on the weekend to “earn” my own money. It helped me learn early on about the importance work ethic.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure and rejection use to hold me back from taking the chances I needed to take in advancing my business career .I had to learn that failure is nothing more than data collected in the process of obtaining the success that I wanted. Now that fear of failing no longer keeps me from trying new things and I surprise myself with how the outcomes are usually better than I expected!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Anyone who knows me knows my family is really matters to me .Money ,success, and fame comes and goes but to me none of that matters without my loved ones.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
There was a period of time when I was focused on doing what I was told I was supposed to be doing but thankfully I realized earlier on than most what my calling was/is and have been thankful to be able to do what I’m born to do daily .
