We recently had the chance to connect with Enaka Beteck and have shared our conversation below.

Enaka , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Besides working as a Club Manager for the Boys & Girls Club, writing music as an independent artist brings me joy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Enaka Beteck, Club Manager for the Boys & Girls Club, but also an independent music artist by the name Noc Beteck. Through music it is my purpose to inspire, motivate, and guide people in this walk of life while delivering creativity and making music fun and filled with wisdom. currently, I’m looking to partner with various organizations to continue to fulfill my purpose. As an artist I look to providing the people what they need, so working with different organizations is how I can fulfill that. Businesses are for the people and I represent the people.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
My past experiences from an adolescent to adulthood. For majority of my life growing up most people really didn’t know who I truly was because I pretty much lived a double life. At home and school I was a different individual than what I was outside in the streets or my friends. The things I’ve had to experience neither people in both sections of my life don’t know because I moved with a code of silence based on childhood trauma. As an adult now I find myself releasing those trauma and past experiences through my music. I am more open now to speaking and letting the world know the real me.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When Covid hit the world, at the time I was working as a Recreation Coordinator for a juvenile detention center called Lower Eastern Shore Correctional Center. During this time, I began experiencing a sense of worthlessness, I was going through depression and other mental issues, and I had no sense of purpose. Even though I had kids, I still felt I had no meaning and I just wanted to give up on life. I had lost all my money due to a scam, so I began living paycheck to paycheck. I having issues in my relationship at the time with my youngest daughter mom and at work I just started to feel mentally beat. It just seemed like everything in my life was just going wrong other than being a father to my kids which that in itself was a struggle due to finances. I wanted to give up. But at was during this state of my life that I found my purpose and it was through music.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Being in the music industry, the biggest lie it tells itself is that the hardest work ethic artists are the ones that are successful. This is a lie because you can have the biggest work ethic in this industry and it’ll get you no where. What matters most is “how much you’re willing to spend to elevate your career.” If you have the money you can buy your way to success with minimal effort.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
What I think people will most misunderstand about my legacy is fitting me into a particular category or type of person. I’m very versatile and understanding of people. Even though I don’t speak much I can still adapt and be comfortable around any group Iof people; it’s a natural gift.
