First, thank you so much to the Voyage team for connecting with me–always appreciative of an opportunity to shine light on by brand. To be honest, when I think of the word “purpose” –purpose is divine; I feel like my purpose found me. I wholeheartedly believe that we were all born with gifts, some of those gifts being spiritual and the good book states in 1 Corinthians 12:7, A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.  Read more>>

I grew up in a small town with a small-town mindset. I never thought I would be anything more than a small-town girl. I would probably work in a restaurant or factory my entire life, get married, have kids, and recycle this way of life for all generations to come. This is exactly what happened, and I had a very mediocre life until my husband Tom died. Read more>>

I don’t like to say I’ve necessarily found my purpose. Don’t get me wrong, I love doing what I do in almost every aspect of my life, but I believe it goes beyond finding one sole reason behind my decisions, my actions, or my thought processes. In regards to officiating weddings, celebrating the joy and happiness of an occasion on a couple’s biggest day gives me a sense of fulfillment like no other. Read more>>

In 2009, while working part-time as a mentor and tutor at a low-performing high school on Chicago’s south side, I first realized what my purpose was. I was just a few months away from turning 25 and had recently graduated from undergraduate and was in graduate school. Approaching 25, I was nervously adding lots of self-imposed pressure to have things figured out, thus causing unnecessary anxiety and a premature and early midlife crisis. Read more>>

Finding purpose has been an interesting process for me. I thought that motherhood would offer all the purpose I would need in life, but it turns out I was wrong. I love (love) being a mother, but I realized about two years ago that something was missing in my life. Being a stay at home mom was a privilege I realize, but it lacked a creative outlet that I was craving. Read more>>

In an instant—everything changed.⁣ ⁣ It was in the mountains of Virginia, at a women’s retreat. I found myself sitting in my first women’s circle. Even before there was instagram there was female body insecurity. People in my life felt they had a right to comment on my body as I grew, as I changed, when I was pregnant, breast feeding-it always seemed as thought other people had a right to my body and to have an opinion on it. This made me feel like it was a thing to control and improve and this lead me to my own struggle I had in college with an eating disorder. Read more>>

Prayed a lot. I knew whatever I was going to do for a living had to have a sense of fulfillment. Working for the man for a salary wasn’t going to cut it. Let me start by saying that finding my purpose has not been an easy task. The idea of pursuing a purpose didn’t really occupy my thoughts for most of my life. I often played it safe, making choices that kept me on the expected path, the one of least resistance. I tended to concentrate on my limiting beliefs, fixating on what I thought I couldn’t do rather than on what I could achieve. Read more>>

I feel like I had several “aha” moments that led me to where I am today. The first was as an undergraduate at UC Santa Barbara, where I first learned about the climate crisis. My purpose found me. I read somewhere that when you ask yourself, “What is my life’s purpose?”, what you’re actually asking is, “What can I do with my time that is important?” Important things give our lives meaning and happiness. I spent the first half of my life seeking pleasure eluding reality with self-destructive behaviors. Ultimately, this left me on the other end of the spectrum: listless, depressed, and lost.  Read more>>

Deeper meaning or purpose has been the fuel of most of my decisions in my adult life. It’s also been the source of my deepest discomfort when I don’t feel connected to it. When I feel lost or in the “in-between” of what was and what will be, I rely on three things. Read more>>

My purpose in life came to me in 1994 when I was 20 years old. I had dropped out of college a year earlier, not knowing what I wanted in life. I was waiting tables at a local restaurant when I found out I was pregnant. I was living with the father and in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship. I did not believe an abortion was the right choice for me, and I had released a child for adoption when I was in high school, so that was something that was not an option for me either. Read more>>

I’ve been making music as long as I can remember. As a small child, I’d plunk out the melody to Billy Joel songs on a toy keyboard I had received as a gift. I think it’s something that has been with me for my entire life, and I didn’t realize it until I got into doing cosplay. I’ve always been loved art.
