We’re looking forward to introducing you to Fitch Means. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Fitch , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of the resilience I’ve built. No one can see the hours I spend reframing setbacks and practicing patience, but it’s the foundation for everything else I accomplish
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi everyone, I’m Fitch Means, a singer-songwriter who blends smooth R&B and pop with heartfelt storytelling. I started writing songs as a way to process everyday life, and that honest, diary-style approach still shapes my music today.
What makes my sound unique is the mix of soulful vocals, lush harmonies, and grooves that draw listeners in while keeping the message front and center. Right now I’m working on new music that dives into themes of growth and connection, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I’m ready to release the need for constant perfection. For years I felt like every song, every event, every move had to be flawless before I could share it. That mindset helped me build discipline and a high standard, but it also kept me from taking creative risks and enjoying the process. It served its purpose, teaching me how to work hard and deliver quality, but now it’s time to let it go so I can create more freely and trust that growth comes from experimenting, not just from getting everything ‘right’
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
One of my deepest wounds was the feeling of not being fully seen or accepted for my sexuality, my art, and the vision I carry. Growing up, I often felt I had to hide parts of myself to fit expectations. Then, in 2024, a serious car accident left me with a spinal injury and forced me to stop working for months. That experience shook me physically and emotionally, but it also made me slow down, face my fears, and rebuild from the inside out.
I’ve healed by embracing my identity as a gay Black artist and by creating music and events that celebrate authenticity. Community, therapy, and leaning into my craft have turned those wounds into purpose. Every song, every show, every HIIKII event is a reminder that the parts of me once silenced are now my loudest, proudest strengths.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say I’m driven by connection and creativity. They see how much I care about bringing people together through music, events, and community spaces where everyone feels seen. They’d point out that I value authenticity and showing up as my whole self and encouraging others to do the same.
They’d also say I put heart into growth and excellence: always learning, pushing my artistry, and helping others shine. Whether it’s curating a HIIKII event, supporting fellow artists, or dropping a new song, they know it matters to me that what I create inspires, uplifts, and leaves people feeling like they belong
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I only had ten years left, I’d stop over-planning and second-guessing myself. I’d let go of the urge to perfect every detail before moving forward. I’d stop saying yes to obligations that don’t feed my soul, and I’d quit holding back music or event ideas until they feel ‘ready.’
Instead, I’d focus fully on the art, the love, and the adventures that light me up; creating boldly, spending time with the people I care about, and sharing everything I have without hesitation
