Frank DiMeo on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Frank DiMeo. Check out our conversation below.

Frank, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is the most important by far. I
Intelligence is important, but without integrity, it can be used for destructive purposes.
Energy is important, but it must be directed to things that matter.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I live in Sarasota, Florida with my beautiful wife, Sue.
We are both very passionate about fitness, in fact Sue is a Pilates Instructor.
I created the Mace Fit training system almost ten years ago, and it is co-owned by Sue.
Our Mace Fit tagline is “cardio without running, & strength without barbells”.
Mace and club training is about 3,000 years old; nothing lasts that long unless it produces consistent results.
Mace Fit is the synergy of those ancient methods, plus my martial arts and strength training experience.
Our training template has been tested and tweaked for optimal results ever since 2016.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My Dad, a career Marine, instilled a solid work ethic in me from an early age.
He always had me doing odd jobs at home and for our neighbors, like raking yards and shoveling snow.
I got my first construction job at 16 pushing wheelbarrows of wet cement for a masonry crew.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, when my first wife left me for one of my so-called friends and took my son away. I was in a very dark place for quite a while.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
One of the best ways to see what really effective training versus what is faddish nonsense is the test of time.
Aside from mace and club training, like I mentioned earlier, being done for 3,000 years or more.
Other forms of training have also, like stone lifting.
The fads often surface around New Years or just before swimsuit season, then disappear soon after.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I find much peace in reading the Bible, meditating on what it says, and praying.

What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
