From Burnout to Balance: The Role of Self-Care

Burning out is one of the primary risks you face as you work towards your goals and so focusing on self-care as a way to minimize the impact of burnout is one of the best investments you can make.

Love Blvd promotes self-care and offer products that encourages customers to focus and take care of their well-being. As the founder, I believe that the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our lives are imperative as our health should be a priority if we want to feel better. I love to burn one of the candles that are hand poured and sold by Love Blvd. When the candle is lit. I would focus on positive thinking by meditating and saying affirmations. Sometimes we can be hard on ourselves without knowing it.  Read more>>

I must revisit my self-care journey on a regular basis. As the founder of Tips from Tia, I constantly tell readers and audiences to practice self-care. However, every time I take on a new role or position, the first thing to fall by the waist side is my personal self-care regimen. So, I must revisit what I need to do first, and that is usually a better management in my time. Next, it’s about drawing boundaries. Saying ‘no’ is part of self-care because if you don’t know when to use that word, people will pull you in all different directions. When those first two things are off balance, it’s easy to discover that my eating habits are bad, my workouts don’t have priority, and my meditation time is non-existent. None of this is ok with me. Honestly, I am working on my self-care practice! It is something that easily falls to the wayside for me when things get busy or stressful. So, this year, I am working on building a foundation of self-care, and making it a regular part of my life so that it’s a lifestyle and something I do routinely. Some of my favorite self-care activities are meditation, dancing, taking walks, going to the beach, coloring, painting, reading fiction, writing, or journaling, Face Timing with family and friends, listening to music, praying, and sunset or stargazing. Self-care is massive for me. I’m a huge believer in the benefits of therapy and regular cardiovascular exercise. Having cathartic outlets is important for all of us, and the endorphin release I get after working out always makes me feel substantially better. Art, especially drawing, relieves my stress levels. I especially enjoy drawing buildings, as well as dogs and cats. Read more>>

I find time to be creative! Hobbies are vital to self-care. My hobbies also switch up depending on mood, time of the year, how I’m feeling…. My main hobby is knitting, I find it very helpful with my anxiety. It also feels good to complete something, so every project is a small marathon that I feel great about when I finish. I also love to read, I usually set a goal of 35 books a year (audiobooks count!). I also try to find a balance between being active by running or biking, and resting. Read more>>

Self care has many appearances, from a spa day to getting enough exercise , my self care is my business. In a world where going out is becoming more and more expensive, I am left on my couch after teaching. I would go crazy if I had nothing to do. Sometimes I can over work myself and the self care quickly changes to stress, but that is just another example of having too much of a good thing. One of the best parts about working with polymer clay is that I can choose how much of a challenge I want.  Read more>>

I have always worked incessantly and unhealthily. It was during the 2020 pandemic shutdown that I reached an apex of abuse to my body. I did webinars and workshops and spoke at virtual conferences. I worked myself to the bone, pulling all-nighters and not going to bed until 6 or 7 a.m. the following morning. I would have kept going after the all-nighters, but I would get nauseous being forced to go to bed. My health practices were horrendous because I sacrificed my health and well-being for the entrepreneurial journey. I was a workaholic. Read more>>

Some self-care practices I genuinely enjoy are deeply ingrained into my lifestyle. Eating healthy is a cornerstone of my routine, I emphasize nutrient-dense, whole foods that nourish both my body and mind. Regular exercise, including a mix of cardiovascular workouts and strength training, keeps me physically fit but makes a huge impact to mental health. Spending time in nature is essential for me, this provides me a peaceful escape and a deep sense of connection with the Earth.  Read more>>

In relation to my business, a huge change I made towards self-care was creating very structured work hours and honoring them. When I first started my business, I was not structured with my work hours, and I would let other obligations take priority, causing me to work through the weekends and late into the night. It felt like there were no work/life boundaries, and it really affected my mental state. About a year in, I decided to set myself up with which 40 hours of the week I work, and viciously protect my weekends.  Read more>>

Self-care is so essential for success and effectiveness, but I approach it differently than most life coaches/wellness leaders. Self-care these days is so wrapped up in this idea of having fancy things and intense, long, rigid routines….cold plunges, skincare, hour-long meditations, hot yoga, devoted, intense spiritual practices…. It’s too much pressure! And this approach has got to go. Read more>>

When it comes to self-care, I like to call it my appointment with myself. Running is my chosen activity and has a huge impact in my life for keeping me both physically and mentally fit. Mindfulness is the overarching concept behind my self-care practices. To gain control of one’s mind, one must differentiate between legitimate physical and emotional responses and potentially harmful mindless reactions. In this way, one can be most effective in most aspects of one’s life. My self-care practices have evolved and continue to do so. They allow me to be effective because they allow me to feel as good as possible. Read more>>

It took me a while to accept that self-care isn’t selfish. When I was starting my business and raising a young family, my constant companion was a hustle and drive that was always threatening me with burnout. I also had an inflated ego that told me I could do it all – which just doesn’t make sense. I mean really, who did I think I was? Read more>>

My self-care regimen is a holistic blend of physical, mental, and spiritual practices. Central to this approach is my spiritual discipline, which includes prayer, meditation, and reading the Bible. As a mom of two young children (1 and 3 years old), a wife, and a business owner, I had to learn to prioritize self-care. I also had to figure out what self-care can look like for me based on my current season of life. So often, as moms, we are told to schedule monthly massages or plan trips with our girlfriends as a form of self-care when in reality, we don’t have the time, capacity, or support with the kids to be able to realistically do those things. For some of us, those things may not even be the most appealing way to pour into ourselves on a regular basis. Read more>>

Being a skin care brand, self-care is at the core of what we do and who we are. We are really proud of our branding because it tells a story. The definition of Intune is “in a state in which one thing agrees with or matches another” aka balance. Since Intune is also a classical musical term, we decided to lean into that, making Harmonize Your Mind and Body our tagline. Every day, we are working toward finding balance or harmony in this life. My self-care routine includes doing anything on the water whether it’s sailing, swimming, snorkeling or even floating! What I love about the water is the sense of freedom and flow. Sailing with the wind, with no particular destination is great but racing to optimize speed is also really fun – it’s a combination of adrenaline and dopamine – not just to survive but thrive in some extreme situations! Swimming and snorkeling are a bit more chill, it allows my mind to totally empty whereas with the sailing, I’ve got to be hyper focus and nothing else matters – no phones, no wifi, just the being in the wind and weather. I teach hot yoga and practice hot yoga. I consider this a form of art (that goes hand in hand with my career in Graphic Design). It’s a way to disconnect from the emails, the hustle – the everyday busy. It’s encourages me to become more mindful by focusing more on the breath – not on the workload I have. Starting my days with a little inspiration of gratitude, movement or breath work and I instantly have a more creative day. Read more>>

Self-care is an effective way to learn who you are and what you like to do. I partake in self-care to dissociate my work life and my personal life. I find myself at parks walking and submerging myself in things from my childhood, such as swings, music, nature, and people in the community. When I’m indoors, self-care for me is self-expression. The biggest thing I’ve done for self care is practicing gratitude, patience, eliminating expectations, loving the process and showing myself grace (especially on the “bad” days). We live in a world of constant comparison and the idea of instant gratification thanks to social media. It can be really hard to remember your worth and why you’re doing what you’re doing. ESPECIALLY when you see others doing the same thing but “better” or more “effortlessly”. The more that I’m kind to myself and remove any sort of comparison or expectations, the happier I am and the more willing I am to continue.  Read more>>

Self care for me usually involves exercise including walking, jogging, biking, hiking, climbing, and yoga. If I need more restorative and restful self care, I love being home with a good podcast or tv show with blankets, coffee, and snuggles with my husband and our dog. Balancing energetic and restorative self care helps me to recharge and have more mental and creative energy to work on art. Read more>>

Engaging in self-care is a priority for me, and a routine I’ve established involves regular exercise throughout the week to clear my mind. Reading is another activity I love, with a constant rotation between self-improvement books and fiction. Treating myself to a nice coffee outing is a simple yet effective form of self-care as well. Additionally, spending quality time with my dog, and taking leisurely walks along the beach with him, is a source of joy and relaxation. Recognizing the significance of breaks and engaging in activities that recharge me is crucial to avoiding burnout and maintaining overall well-being. Read more>>
