From Burnout to Balance: The Role of Self-Care

Burning out is one of the primary risks you face as you work towards your goals and so focusing on self-care as a way to minimize the impact of burnout is one of the best investments you can make.

There’s a reason I talk so much about ponds—and it’s not just because I build and maintain them for a living. My own pond has become one of the most essential parts of my self-care and personal growth. It’s more than a backyard feature. It’s where I learned how to slow down. How to listen. How to breathe again. Read More>>

Self care is my business! Sometimes I forget that I need some TLC, as well. No matter what you do for self care, there are so many benefits. So good for your mental, physical, financial and spiritual health. I always make time for myself. Even if it’s 5 minutes, no matter what it is, I always make sure that I have a little “me time”. I go for walks outside, workout, listen to a podcast, cook dinner with my husband, or just breathe for a minute in silence. One minute of breathing can do so much for your mental health! Read More>>

My favorite form of self-care is taking time out of my day to do things I already thoroughly enjoy, but “glamorizing” it. Other than the average beauty maintenance appointments like getting my nails done or receiving a facial (which I admit- I do thoroughly enjoy), I love doing little things for myself; applying a face mask in a silk robe, playing music from a vinyl instead of a playlist from my phone, & putting my favorite soda in a wine glass. These little things help me romanticize my alone time, therefore majorly helping my mental health when I have no plans. Taking my everyday routine and making it a little more special each day is a huge priority to me- to overall appreciate myself and my mind a bit more. Read More>>

I have learned when it’s time to give myself a break from the chaos, I silence my phone and go for a walk, go to church, do a self care routine from head to toe or read a book. I think it’s good to give yourself extra time to decompress and relax. Life can be tough especially when you have stressors in your life that are constantly weighing you down it’s important to take a reset break. Read More>>

I am a firm believer that self care is so essential in order to be not just an effective artist but just person overall. For me self care comes in the form of different art mediums. I find myself winding down with other art forms such as writing, painting, cooking really just creating things. I’ve found myself lately also reading and listening to alternate forms of music that I otherwise wouldn’t and meditating as well and connecting with the spiritual part of myself that I have neglected for a long time. Other things such as working out and taking time for myself and just being alone as well has been a huge thing for me lately trying to discover what soothes me, helps me and really gives me motivation to start and end my day. It is only through all these things that I feel like I’ve really been able to keep myself mentally strong to tackle my own music, work, and now throwing shows with my fellow Mxke Noise team as well.  Read More>>

Like most transitions, my new season as an entrepreneur began with shedding the old life and roles I had previously enjoyed through an unexpected turn of events. It was a difficult transition, overlaid with pain, anxiety, confusion and regrets. The day this journey began was September 1, 2021. I was at work, or at least my body was at work. Against policy, my cell phone was on the desk, easily within reach. My boss had said, under the circumstances, of course that was okay. I caught myself just staring at the monitor in front of me. Self-care is a daily practice for me. Every morning, before touching my phone or jumping out of bed, I take time to nurture my internal well-being. I engage in practices like stretching, prayer, meditation, journaling, sipping my favorite cup of tea, and listening to uplifting music that inspires me and prepares me for the day. Once I’ve poured into my mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being, I feel uplifted, positive, and eager to begin my day. I’ve learned that when I fill my own cup first, I’m able to show up fully for my clients, family, and others—rather than from a place of depletion. This intentional start leaves me feeling at peace and helps me navigate the day with fewer negative outcomes because I’ve set a positive tone from the very beginning. Read More>>

Self-care has been a priority for much of my adult life. I learned at a young age that to feel good mentally and physically, I had to take care of myself. I spend a lot of time alone in nature, observing animals, noticing the quality of light, and watching how plants change over time. I’m happiest when I’m able to walk outdoors at dawn, after treating myself to a coffee, and experiencing the land as morning arrives. I love treating my body well and aim to feed it foods that are anti-inflammatory and healthy for my own innate constitution. Read More>>
