Gina Carrillo of Murcia Spain on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gina Carrillo. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Gina, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been exploring new beaches and cities! I really love La Manga and Alicante! I’ve tried new fruits that are here in Spain too, including red Dragonfruit and Passionfruit too! I love to travel and have new adventures! I try to go to a different place every week! Also snorkeled with Jellyfish! These were beautiful and harmless!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Gina Carrillo aka The Black Widow Poet. I wrote about Love, Loss, Strength and Resilience! This includes poetry on grief and overcoming losses, beating stage 3 breast cancer and surviving through domestic violence! I have two Books out on Amazon including Kaleidoscope & Poets United. I’ve also been Published in over 30 Poetry Anthology books! I’ve been performing poetry as a Spoken Word Artist since 2020. I love performing live at shows and and also can do online events on zoom or other social media platforms. My next book will have Art included which I love to paint Impressionist Acrylic works on canvas.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I finally felt powerful when I stopped being a people pleaser and started living my life for myself! I put myself into Therapy with Bridges of Williamson County in 2019 and I started my healing process. I also did some Al-anon and Co-dependents anonymous sessions. Also other therapeutic and soul strengthening workshops. It took years to evolve into the person I am today but I’m very proud of myself!

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
There have been family members and close friends that were unhealthy and toxic for me. I had to cut them out of my life and block all access to my energy! I live a stress and drama free life now and this is how I beat cancer! I believe that trauma and abuse made me get cancer! Being healthy is not just what you eat or how much excersize you do it also involves who is influencing you and your thoughts. Bad energy is a poison and it will affect you. Those that are around me now must be reciprocal and treat me as I treat them too!

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends will tell you that I am a ton of fun and you never know what I am going to do! They will say that my dreams is what fuels my ambition towards all my goals! I will live the life I’ve always wanted and I go out and make it happen!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I retired a little over a year ago now! My customers and coworkers miss my sweet and positive attitude! I also would go the extra mile for my customers and I worked very hard at customer service and was promoted to be a Lead Team Manager and also a Training Specialist too! I do miss talking to my customers everyday! I went back to College and will be walking the Stage to get my Psychology degree In December!
