We recently had the chance to connect with Hazel Alvarez and have shared our conversation below.
Hazel , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am walking a path. A path that has been divinely crafted for me and by me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Hazel Alvarez. I also go by Nuna which is the name given to me in a dream. I am in service to humanity as a birthkeeper, mother, wife, holistic educator, and author. I guide soul guardians-(parents), teachers, and caregivers-back to the remembrance of who they are, and what it means to embody the experience of being a child within the physiological and emotional realms. My offerings include courses that center around holding sacred space at birth, as well as writings that awaken ancestral memory and illuminate the path of conscious parenting.
My Story
I have been an Early Childhood Educator since 2002. In 2021, I resigned from the Department of Education and created the Nuna 5D Community, PEA. The name Nuna came to me in a dream. In various Indigenous languages, Nuna means “land” or “earth.” In Korean, it means “older sister.”
From 2021 to 2024, Nuna 5D served as a sacred community for children ages 4–10. Designed as an alternative to the conventional education system, Nuna 5D nurtured each child’s innate ability to be who they truly are—to explore what lights them up, to follow the rhythm of their inner joy, and to live in alignment with their hearts. It was a place where intuition guided learning, and children were empowered to become who they came here to be.
My love for education and devotion to the well-being of our children inspired me to create a space that truly honored and nourished them.
Today, I am being called to serve children in a new way—by supporting mothers and fathers in the sacred journey of birth and parenting. When parents are nurtured, grounded, and aligned in love, their children arrive into the world held by a balanced and harmonious frequency.
This is the beginning of a transformational path for each child—one where birth is honored as the sacred, physiological, and soul-anchored event it truly is. Our ancestors understood this. They remembered the importance of honoring the body-soul connection, of embracing birth not as a medical emergency, but as a natural rite of passage.
Nuna Luz is here to support, witness, and teach through this monumental shift—a return to the remembrance of who we are and why we are here.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I was ordinary, lacking intelligence, uniqueness, or anything truly meaningful to offer the world. I thought my only path was to live a “normal” life, quietly blending in.
I now know this is not my truth. I am here with purpose, living and embodying the unique blueprint of my soul, contributing in ways that only I can.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I love this question. It resonates deeply with me because I once had a powerful experience where I fully embodied my 12-year old self. As I connected with her, I felt all her anxiety, self-doubt, disappointment, and uncertainty. I recognized what was happening and gently whispered to her, “I’ve got you. You’re going to be okay. It will all work out.”
In that moment, I reminded her that she is stronger than she knows, and that everything she’s endured will become her strength. Her trauma will alchemize into abilities. She has so much to contribute and share in this lifetime. This is the lifetime she came to expand in consciousness, and to fully love herself.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
The project I am committed to no matter how long it takes, is helping us remember our soul contracts to our children. This is a journey into the unseen, into the energy that moves through us, and into the sacred responsibility we hold as guardians of the next generation.
We are living in a time where the old ways of thinking are shifting. Our children are coming into the world more attuned, more sensitive, and more gifted than ever before. But if we do not recognize these gifts, if we do not prepare ourselves to nurture and protect them, then we risk losing sight of something extraordinary.
My goal is to guide parents/adults in helping them remember who they are, so that they can stand beside our children, not just guide them, but protect the the gifts they carry.
When we honor this responsibility, we step into a level of closeness with our children that transcends anything we have ever known. We begin to see them not just as our children, but as guides, as mirrors, as beings of light who carry the codes for a new way of being.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I have a remarkable gift: the ability to remember what it feels like to be a child. Though I’ve carried this gift my entire adult life, I only consciously recognized it in 2021. This awareness transformed me as a teacher. While working in public schools, I was able to deeply connect with every student I taught, even those who were labeled as aggressive or difficult, because I could meet them in their world.
In 2022, I discovered that I also have the ability to access altered states of consciousness, aligning myself with the brainwave states that young children naturally operate in. This opened up an even deeper level of connection, allowing me to intuitively understand what a child is thinking, feeling, and needing. I came to see how society conditions us to shift children prematurely into beta brainwave states, programming them to function as adults long before they are developmentally ready.
This understanding guides my mission to protect and honor the sacred rhythm of childhood.
