Heather Perren of Los Angeles on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Heather Perren. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Heather, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m incredibly proud to have built a virtual Lagree Fitness studio alongside my business partner, Lexi, who, believe it or not, was a complete stranger when we started. With nothing but the basics, we learned as we went: building our own website, developing an app, and growing through constant feedback from our members.
Five years later, we’re stronger than ever. Through hard work, sweat (literally), and a few tears, we’ve built a powerful global community of fitness enthusiasts and trainers who come together to shake and sweat in a safe, fun and supportive environment. I’m especially proud that we’ve brought Lagree to people who don’t have access to studios in their area and that we’re able to support over 15 incredible trainers from around the world through our platform, Lagreeing at Home.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Lagree is my passion and I truly believe that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. Lagree may be my career, but it never feels like work. As a mom to 15 year old triplets and a former first grade teacher, I never imagined myself in the fitness industry, but life has a way of guiding you to your destined path.
I started as a client-turned-trainer in my local studio when I got certified in Lagree Fitness in 2015, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. In 2020, I began working closely with Lagree Fitness founder Sebastien Lagree, who appointed me Senior Master Trainer later that year. Since then, I’ve traveled globally to train instructors, help open studios, and develop educational tools like the Lagree Level 2 Cueing Course and the Lagree Pre/Postnatal courses.

When the world shut down in March 2020, I pivoted fast, teaching virtual Lagree classes from home with one of the original 100 Microformers. That led to an unexpected and powerful partnership with fellow Lagree Master Trainer, Lexi Heinzer. Together, we launched Lagreeing at Home, a virtual Lagree Fitness studio that now offers 2,000+ on-demand classes, daily live classes, and a global team of Lagree trainers. We even launched the first-ever Lagree virtual app in 2021.

Today, I continue working directly with Sebastien Lagree at Lagree HQ to help guide and grow the global Lagree community including organizng Lagree events worldwide. In 2024, I led the organization of the first-ever Lagree Summit in Las Vegas, bringing hundreds of instructors, studios, and fans together for a weekend of connection, education, and innovation.

When I’m not wearing multiple hats for Lagree, I love spending time with my husband and kids, our dogs, traveling, cooking and entertaining with friends and family.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
It may not be my earliest memory, but one moment I truly felt powerful was after giving birth to triplets, and then taking them out on my own as infants. I remember being in a store with my triple stroller when a woman stopped me and asked, “Do you have one nanny or one for each baby?” I looked at her, standing there alone with my three newborns, and replied, “I don’t have any nannies.” That moment hit me: I was doing something many might find overwhelming, even with one baby, and I was handling three. From that point on, I embraced the power of trusting myself and making things happen and this carried over to what would turn into my fitness career.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t worry about the popular kids or trying to fit in. Just be you. Eventually, you’ll find your path and you’ll inspire people on a global level and all the little things that seem so big and terrible right now will never matter. Trust yourself and your instincts.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Being in the fitness industry, especially within Lagree Fitness, I’ve seen how easily misinformation spreads. One of the most common lies is the idea that one workout is superior to another. The truth is, any form of movement is valuable. Rather than pinning workouts against each other, we should be encouraging people to move in ways that feel good for them. Many methods, including Lagree, complement other fitness modalities beautifully, and the focus should always be on promoting movement, not tearing down other approaches.

Specific to Lagree, two persistent myths stand out:
1. It’s only for women.
Despite being an incredibly challenging, full-body strength and endurance workout, Lagree is often marketed and perceived as “female-focused.” This not only limits its appeal but also excludes men and other potential clients who could benefit immensely from the method. In reality, Lagree is for everyone including athletes, beginners, men, women, and all body types.

2. You have to be fit to do Lagree.
This misconception keeps many beginners or people with injuries from ever trying. But the beauty of Lagree is how adaptable it is. Whether someone is postpartum, rehabbing an injury, or completely new to fitness, there are safe, effective modifications to meet them where they are. Unfortunately, this isn’t always clearly communicated, and it creates unnecessary barriers to entry.

Ultimately, Lagree, like all fitness, is about empowerment, not exclusion. The more we shift the narrative to be inclusive and supportive of all movement, the stronger our fitness community becomes.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Absolutely! Lagree is my passion. I eat, sleep, and breathe it. I wear many hats in the Lagree world, and yet, it never feels like work. That passion is something my clients, coworkers, fellow trainers, friends, and family can see and feel every day. I wake up at 5 a.m. without an alarm, genuinely excited to dive back in. This career has given me incredible opportunities, from traveling the world to building meaningful connections with people across the globe, and I truly love every moment of it.
