Helin Cetin shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Helin, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I feel called to fully submerge myself in the artistic world that I’m creating. For the first time in a long time, I’m consciously inviting people into my own field, rather than constantly trying to fit into other people’s realities. By being more present, I’ve learned how to harvest and protect my energy, which allows me to show up more fully for myself.
In the past, I avoided this because it was easy to distract myself and spread my focus thin. Now, being intentional keeps my thoughts and feelings centered, and that focus naturally flows into my art. It’s helping me create not just songs, but an entire world around my work.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Helin Cetin, and I’m an independent artist born and raised in Germany, now based in sunny Miami, FL. I moved after the pandemic with the dream of reaching a global audience, and over time I found my most authentic expression by experimenting with the sounds and cultural influences I grew up around.
As a musician, I’ve cultivated millions of streams worldwide, and I describe my sound as world music, a space where cultures, languages, and elements blend together. I believe this emerging genre represents the future of music, and it’s exactly where my artistry lives. I’m currently working on a project that fully brings this sound to life.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I believe I was much more carefree. A spirit who could speak freely without second guessing my words or worrying how they would be received. Often, it’s not just the world telling you who to be, but the environment you grow up in or live in, which shapes how you see yourself. Back then, I was fearless, and I’m learning to reclaim that now. I would take on any challenge head on, go after what I wanted, and stay deeply connected to my own world. That’s the path I’m returning to. I’ve realized that the noise of the outside world I’ve had enough of and true peace comes from the silence within.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I think suffering is the greatest teacher. The lessons learned actually stick, success is far more a feeling. It’s very subjective, but your losses and hardship leave scars and marks. Experiencing what you DO NOT want will catapult your personal goals. A motivator that any shiny object or comfortable lifestyle could never offer.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie in my industry is that independence and owning your music isn’t beneficial to your career. Many people still operate with outdated beliefs about how money, fame, and power are built in music. In reality, when done correctly, independence gives you the leverage to negotiate from a place of strength, creating more safety and protection over your business and your art.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
I think every time you get what you want, it comes with lessons you didn’t know were attached… almost like a hidden surprise. Often, we don’t even realize we’ve received what we once prayed or asked for until we’re already chasing the next thing. When you’re able to stay present and acknowledge, “Okay, I have what I wanted now,” you notice it rarely looks exactly the way you imagined. Sometimes it’s better, sometimes it’s worse, but it always carries a secret realization that teaches you something deeper.
