How did you overcome divorce?

Some marriages last a year and others last decades – but from what we’ve seen, divorces are always difficult. It’s often disruptive emotionally, socially, financially and the emotional wounds can leave us less ready to take on challenges right when we need that strength the most. In an effort to help those going through divorce or separation, we have put together stories from others who have gone through divorce.

I wasn’t raised around healthy relationships. I’d never seen happily married people close up as a kid. However, I did know that when it came to relationships, I didn’t want any of what I’d witnessed. Unfortunately, I don’t recall seeing any displays of affection or “I love you” back and forth. I did know that deep down inside I wanted to experience real love when I grew up even if I didn’t know what it look like. I just felt it inside of me. Overcoming divorce was not easy at all…at least for me. I didn’t get married with the intentions of getting divorce, that was not the plan but it happened.

It took almost a decade for me to heal from my divorce and during this time, I chose not to date anyone but instead, rediscover who I was. This happened through meeting with a faith based Christian counselor, prayer, isolation, commitment to self and journaling which lead me to writing my first book and later, a journal with the steps I actually took.
