How did you overcome Postpartum Depression?

In nearly every neighborhood in America there will be at least a few mothers who have experienced Postpartum Depression (PPD). Despite its prevalence and severity, it’s a topic that is rarely discussed. At the core of BoldJourney is a belief that learning from each other’s experiences is essential and so we asked some incredible mothers to open up to us about their experiences with PPD.

I first acknowledged I felt postpartum depression when my baby was around 8 months. I remember the beginning months going on feeling really good and like everything was flowing, life was beautiful. I had what I like to call a “surprise” baby. I never thought I would have children or even wanted kids. But here I was 24, single and pregnant, in the beginning of my Army career. I’m originally from New Jersey and at the time was stationed in Fort Stewart, Georgia, so I had no family to support me.
