Ignoring the Naysayers

Almost everything that’s changed the world in a positive way has been an unreasonable idea. It’s unreasonable, until it’s commons sense. That’s how change happens and so in order to make a difference in the world, it’s incredibly important to be able to ignore the naysayers. Some of the best and brightest from our community share their stories and advice below.

No one knows your purpose and true capabilities, except you and God. So, people who doubt or hate your goals are acting from a place of fear and ignorance. You have to push through negative talk, and become your own cheerleader. In some instances, you might be the only person rooting for you, and that’s okay. As you start achieving more and more, people will join your support group. But just know the haters will always be there, because you remind them of what they can’t be. Read More>>

I started working when I was in college as a nanny, getting paid $8/hr and working overtime shifts. Through hard work, I built up my clientele and my reputation with the sole purpose to serve families and relieve the stress in their homes. I used to want to help EVERYONE. Like, I would go to jobs for free or even $5/hr just to be able to help take stuff off someone else’s plate. I got to the point where I was working 12 different jobs while going to school full time. I am going to be honest, it has not been easy and it’s truly something I am still learning to overcome every day. In the past, I would take other people’s criticism and stances towards me too personally. Anything bad someone had to say about me, I took it to heart and questioned everything about whether they were right.  Read More>>

I’m someone who’s an over-thinker, overachiever and I put a lot of pressure on myself , but the one thing I’m most proud of is that I’ve never ever compared myself to anyone outside of myself. There’s literally nothing anyone can say about me that I probably haven’t already said about myself. I don’t feel sorry for myself for overcoming IS (imposter syndrome), it’s made me a stronger person, and an effective leader in my boss life. Read More>>

My methods of persisting despite the haters and naysayers starts with the confidence within myself. It may have a lot to do with my harsh upbringing on the East Coast or my trials and tribulations but even through it all. I knew that NO ONE was seeing me at any level! Well, interestingly, I can’t say I’ve encountered haters in my life. If they do exist, I’ve learned to block out their negativity. If they don’t wish for my success, they don’t hold much significance in my journey. My primary challenge, however, lies with the nay-sayers. It’s not the usual suspects who wish for my downfall, but those who care about me deeply and fear my failure. Read More>>

Cooper/Alicia: Businesses especially restaurants seem to be open to a lot of criticism these days with the evolution of online reviews. Criticism used to destroy us early on when we first opened mama’s boy. It is very difficult to not take bad reviews personally. So this is how my story of photography started. Diabetes I got diabetes when I turned 22 and had to miss work for like 3 weeks and I found a camera a Nikon d3200 to be exact downstairs not being used. My life has ebbed and flowed creatively ever since I was a child. I’ve moved between photography, painting, writing poetry, writing songs, and singing. I imagined my life forever being full of creativity. It’s what made me feel alive. Be alive. To grow and nurture my natural born abilities. Over the last couple years I’ve taken a step back to observe what I’ve done. What I’ve created. Read More>>

Three qualities that are most impactful in my journey are my positivity, endurance, and my willingness to forgive.
