Ignoring the Naysayers

Almost everything that’s changed the world in a positive way has been an unreasonable idea. It’s unreasonable, until it’s commons sense. That’s how change happens and so in order to make a difference in the world, it’s incredibly important to be able to ignore the naysayers. Some of the best and brightest from our community share their stories and advice below.

Despite encountering skeptics and detractors, haters and nay-sayers, I am driven by an inner determination to persevere. For instance, when people asserted that print was obsolete, I defied expectations by successfully launching READY Publication alongside my daughter. We expanded our reach to over twenty countries for five years until the onset of the pandemic. Read more>>

Most of my haters are in my own head, Overcoming the Inner Hater, has been a significant journey for me—one that has not only transformed my own mindset but also inspired me to assist others in navigating this internal challenge. Developing a method to shift from self-criticism to self-encouragement has been crucial. Read more>>

The first time I ran for office, I had three opponents. The stress level of campaigning that year was very high. It was so intense that, at one point, I remember rocking myself in the bathtub, talking to myself, trying to calm down. I was constantly checking social media and the internet for posts about me, or malicious videos. It was a very dark time and I felt fear everyday.  Read more>>

I stay motivated by transforming negative and positive experiences into useful fuel to accomplish my goals. People who focus on doubt are often projecting their own self-doubt onto others, and I feel empathy for them. However, it’s important to recognize that such a mindset can be a personal prison and has nothing to do with me. So I keep going and I love to see the look of shock and disbelief they have with my results. Read more>>

I tell them, “I THINK THE THINK NOT!” However on a more serious note – the best way to answer this is question is by simply reminding myself that I’m allergic to negativity. Whatever and whomever that jeopardizes my inner peace – I purposely remain distant from at all times. One thing about it, people only talk and run their mouths without walking ’em first when they realize you’re on the right track that God has called you to be on.  Read more>>

First I think it’s important to recognize that haters and naysayers often lack experience or understanding of what you are trying to achieve. There will always be individuals who doubt your abilities or criticize your goals. Oftentimes, these people have not walked the same path or achieved what you are striving for. Their perspective is limited, and they may project their own insecurities onto your ambitions. Read more>>

Music is so personal, which is why there are so many varieties and styles. Not everyone is going to like what what you do, how you do it, or what you have to say. To me, a ‘hater’ is synonymous with an unproductive ‘critic.’ I have had several memorable moments where an individual took it upon themselves to let me know they didn’t like something I was doing. I was rather fortunate to be raised by Midwestern Boomers that didn’t suffer fools. In some ways, that meant I was quite alone and left to my own (and at times feral) devices, but I was also granted a blessing to explore and develop my independence rather early in life. It was  a never about what someone else thought of you because no one else’s opinion of you should matter more than your own. Read more>>

I live by the rule: Don’t let others sway you away from what feels right. In high school, I was told to just “Choose a career that makes you money, since everyone ends up hating their job anyway.” When I altered my career path from biomedical engineering to become a middle school teacher, I was told I was “wasting my intelligence.” When I left my stable job as a classroom teacher to become a full-time independent tutor, I was told I was “making a huge mistake.” Read more>>

To be honest, I just keep makin music. I keep doin my thing. It’s funny to me because sometimes I like to troll them and talk smack back just to piss them off. Other than that, I just keep making music and completely tune them out. The haters don’t even mean nothin you feel me? I think they are mad because I’m having all the success; I got too much motion right now. But yeah; just grind and don’t even pay them any attention unless you want to troll them for a quick laugh.
