Ignoring the Naysayers

Almost everything that’s changed the world in a positive way has been an unreasonable idea. It’s unreasonable, until it’s commons sense. That’s how change happens and so in order to make a difference in the world, it’s incredibly important to be able to ignore the naysayers. Some of the best and brightest from our community share their stories and advice below.

There is a lot of rejection in the writing and publishing world! I’ve made a lot of great friends over the years who commiserate with me about rejection. Probably one of the best stories I have, though, is from when I was first learning how to write picture books. I sent a draft of a manuscript to two freelance editors for feedback. Read more>>

If I ever lack motivation any day , I just think about all the people who ever doubted my abilities . The fact that you told me that I can’t do something is enough to push me . I believe in myself and sometimes I surprise my own self . Regardless of what others may say or think about me , I know me. The world is my oyster.  Read more>>

Persisting despite the haters and naysayers is a journey anchored in my commitment to authenticity. Rather than letting negativity deter me, I channel it into fuel for remaining true to myself and my mission. I find strength in a promise made to my dad and aunt, both inspiringly vibrant individuals who lived their lives unapologetically, always choosing to “Live Out Loud.”  Read more>>

Funny you should ask this question because we deal with this a lot in the entertainment industry. Unfortunately a lot of people look at this industry as a competition so, as a producer of content, many of those I call “friends” have seemed to have turned on us in the last few years as we’ve become more successful. The only way to persist regardless of the nay-sayers is to alchemize the energy. A simple energy exchange. I turned the negativity projected on to me into productivity. What they really want you to do is give up. Unconsciously not knowing that they want you to fail because they may not themselves be able to obtain it due to their own lack of confidence and drive. Giving up is not an option.  Read more>>

The thing about being an artist/creative in my experience is an inherent need for self expression. I call this my “beautiful defect”. It drives me to create my artwork, that is the beautiful part. When I don’t have the time or opportunity to make my art I suffer, that is the defect. What haters or nay-sayers say to me is irrelevant because I create for me first and foremost. I am the first and only audience member. Read more>>

I grew up in a rather traditional Asian family, which means majority of comments made on my behavior, or achievements was criticism rather than praise. I understand that their objective as parents was to push me further, to be better, but it did shape me in certain ways in how I respond to any type of feedback. Read more>>

There are negative people in every aspect of everything that revolves in the world. Taking risks or doing anything “outside of the norm” will always upset someone or some group that feels that they are the correct way of ‘being’. The type of genre I have written is not for all types of people. Read more>>

This is a challenge faced by most individuals who are living a life that is not inline with what mainstream society considers, “A regular path chosen by most people.” Although unfortunate, I didn’t realize until about ten years ago that the most supportive people, regarding my goals and dreams, would be friends, colleagues, and complete strangers I have met for the first time.  Read more>>

A long time ago I realized everyone has haters aka nay-sayers at some point in life. Admittedly, it was when I saw first-hand I was included in the “everyone” group, I was hurt and surprised. The reason it impacted me that way is I tend to be in my own world a lot working on my next idea. I have a lot of goals, so when you are constantly focused on those things you don’t spend time considering there are people who really don’t want you to win. Read more>>

I persist by simply just keep going. I realize that everybody’s going to have an opinion to say something. I also realize that opinions aren’t actually facts so how I battle that is I keep going because I understand that the haters want you to stop they don’t want you to keep going, so what I like to do is the opposite of what I see my haters do and that for me is to keep going. Haven’t we all experienced and continue to experience people who seem to have misplaced hate and negative advice, wether it’s close family members, friends, or even strangers. In all truth, this can be quite crippling to many people as they’re looking for outside support, an act of confidence in their idea or simply want comaraderie in their journey. Read more>>

The haters, nay-sayers, etc. are just distractions, if you ask me. It took me a long time to realize that the issue lies within them and them alone. They have no idea what you’ve had to overcome to be where you are today. It takes a lot of work, time and sacrifice to reach your goals.  Read more>>

I learned at a young age no matter how well you are doing someone is going have something negative to say about how you decide to live your life. They are absolutely entitled to said opinion however it doesn’t make that opinion correct.  Read more>>

The irony is your “Haters” are really your biggest fans. Sure, they may want to see your demise and usurp whatever they feel you have and they don’t, but it really comes down to that. You have something they feel they don’t, or you are someone they want to be. The fact they are so focused on those points, means they won’t achieve the validation or goals they want because they need to look inward, not outward. Read more>>

I persist despite haters, nay-sayers, and spoilers because I believe that everybody has a purpose, a destiny to work towards, and ultimately: achieve. Since I believe that for everybody, and first and foremost: for myself, I cannot be concerned with what haters, nay-sayers, and spoilers have to say about me and what I have going on.  Read more>>

I persist despite any kind of negativity because I really believe in myself and the gift my creator put inside of me. I believe people will criticize you if you are doing your worst or if you are doing your best. I don’t care what people think about the progress in my life because they have never been in my shoes. I grew up in an enviroment where I was what most like to label the “black sheep”. My grandparent’s “adopted” me. I was mixed into the family dysfunction, narcassism, and mental illnesses. As someone who finds comfort in expressing themself, someone who isn’t afraid to be seen, and someone who enjoys putting themselves out into the world, I am not a stranger to the experience of having haters. I’ve always been keenly aware that with every amount of praise and every celebration, there must be a balance of criticism and destruction. Reflecting on even having haters and nay-sayers is one thing, but being honest with myself on how I persist despite these distractions is another.  Read more>>

Bringing another alcohol brand into an already saturated market may seem strange business sense on the surface, but when that is a Ukrainian Vodka that benefits Ukraine workers’ and business’s morale during harsh times, or if its launching a Spanish influenced sparkling wine seltzer that seeks to represent the exotic flavors of Latin culture, or even repurposing a title of achievement derived from the motto of the Late Tupac Shakur, going to market for these brands gives purpose and value.
