The capacity to take risk is one of the biggest enablers of reaching your full potential and so we want to create a space where risk-takers can come together to talk about how they’ve developed their capacity for risk taking.

I love the phrase, “If nothing changes, nothing changes.” I knew for a lot of things I wanted in life I had to change something. Change is always a risk because you don’t 100% know what lies on the other side of change. But I always knew that I had to take the risk if I really wanted the change I was seeking. Read More>>

Risk taking is not something that I would recognize myself as doing. It is the result of challenging and allowing myself to explore the options before me, responsibly. In our lives, we develop understanding (from within) about how we are wired, and who we are. And for me, desiring to know more about everything life has to offer has always been inside. The problem: sometimes there is nobody to ask for guidance, no blueprint of previous happenings, no history of anyone going before you – sometimes its just you. Read More>>

We like to think of it as a calculated risk. We’re in full realization that a sailboat is a depreciating asset so the risk is real. When you walk into a casino with $300 in your pocket knowing that you may walk out with zero left, you’ve taken into account the risk and that’s kind of what we did with this boat. Read More>>

Taking a risk means being willing to give up something valuable in exchange for something else with an uncertain outcome. The reason for not taking a risk is usually that a person fears losing in the end or getting a negative result. It makes perfect sense. However, in my experience, you will never lose. After each risk, you will always achieve something, just it might not be the thing you want; sometimes a valuable experience, opening a way, breaking a taboo, or even a miracle. We might just don’t know what we will get, but it is worth it if our goal is valuable. Read More>>

I would like to quote a recent interview that actress and director Bryce Dallas Howard gave about the importance “to be brave;” especially because it reminds me how brave you need to be when it comes to pursuing a dream so powerful for yourself. Read More>>

The idea of taking risks and confronting fears has been a prominent theme in my work recently. Painting has taught me that creating is about experimentation, taking risks, failing, and figuring out ways to grow from that failure. It’s easy for me to become trapped in my comfort zone, and the only way to escape is to take risks. Life reflects art, and vice versa. I’ve found that if I become comfortable taking risks outside of my artwork, I will be more inclined to take risks on the canvas. Read More>>

Because if I don’t believe I can do something, no one else will.
The world is not always full of kind people who are generous and encouraging. Sometimes, even starting with good intentions, people project their own insecurities and mask their shortcomings to others to better themselves or feel superior. Read More>>

Throughout my experiences in life, I have learned to balance two simple concepts when considering risks. The first concept is to Shoot for the moon. Always want the absolute best for yourself. If you don’t want the best for yourself, who else would want it for you? At minimum, your best interests should always start with you. You lose nothing from wanting to achieve levels you have not yet reached. You gain from having your sights high; as Norman Vincent Peale said, “Even if you miss, you’ll land amongst the stars”. I say, if you’re really devoted, you’ll learn from experience and create an opportunity to shoot from a more advantageous place. Read More>>

My faith in God has stretched me to a place of taking risks. I have finally come to the realization that when God gives me a vision or idea, it’s not my job to figure out the logistics of making it happen. Proverbs 19:21 says “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” So, when I know that it’s the purpose of the Lord for me to go forth with my assignment, there’s no need for me to fear or be afraid of the outcome. I can take risks with this knowledge because it will happen when it’s truly God’s plan. Read More>>

Essentially, we all have to take risks right? Because if we don’t take risks we’ll never know what could have been. I think the bigger question here is how do you mitigate risk? Mitigating risk can be very difficult in the beginning unless you have a mentor. This is something I didn’t have. Having a mentor will not only prevent you from making the same mistakes they made, but will also save you on resources such as time and money so that you can see profits and a successful business faster. I guess for me, I always saw the bigger picture and always acknowledged there was a light at the end of the tunnel no matter how many times I was beaten down and slapped. Read More>>

I have always understood that big risk equals big reward or big failure. Without the prospect of failure, the reward remains mediocre, so I’m not afraid to risk stability in pursuit of a greater one. Whenever my life succumbs to a period of comfortability, I recognize that reward is moving further away, encouraging me to take a risk and bring it back into my peripheral. Read More>>

Risk taking is not something that comes naturally to most people. The prospect of failure, the insecurity of success, and sunk time can be a strong deterrent. These barriers were strong for me early in my career as I valued a stable salary over betting on myself in my personal business. One of my first jobs was selling marketing plans to the suppliers of the company I worked for. In that role, I was winning people over to the idea that they need to spend some of their hard earned dollars on marketing in order to make more money in the long term. Read More>>

I think the ability to take risks stems from self confidence and knowing that NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, the sun still rises the next day. At one point in my life, I realized, even if things go poorly, the sun would still rise and a new day is born. Therefore, I would still have a chance to take that risk, to achieve me goals.
