We recently had the chance to connect with Iris Olivera and have shared our conversation below.
Iris, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something outside of work that’s been bringing me joy lately is returning to a project I’ve truly missed since before COVID—organizing my Cancer Charity Fashion Shows. This cause is very close to my heart, as it allows me to give back in honor of my two brothers whom I lost to cancer. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to continue this work and carry their memory forward.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
The greatest influence on my work ethic has been my mother Mrs. Hazel. She was the very definition of consistency and dedication —up at the crack of dawn, working full-time, and then returning home after 5 p.m. to take on her motherly duties with us five siblings. Her work was truly never done, and watching her balance it all taught me the value of perseverance, responsibility, and commitment. In many ways, I feel I’m walking in her footsteps, carrying forward the same strong work ethic she instilled in me.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Resilience – Suffering reveals how strong I truly am and helps me develop endurance I didn’t know I had.
True Priorities – Hardship clarifies what really matters—relationships, health, love—over titles or possessions.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is respect for community and heritage. I believe in honoring the sacrifices and traditions of my ancestors, which continue to shape my identity and work ethic. This value keeps me grounded, resilient, and committed to uplifting others while staying true to where I come from.”
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am moving my body- dancing, or light stretching to release tension.
When I am engaging in creative expression – cooking, cleaning or creating those special makeup looks and
Spending time with uplifting people – surrounding myself with those who bring light, not chaos.
