We recently had the chance to connect with Ivory Morgan-Burton and have shared our conversation below.

Ivory, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
While I think they all are important. Integrity for me is #1. To be fair, honest, and always do the right thing. Maintaining strong principles of business and working with my clients is of utmost importance to me. I am always grateful for those I work for and work with. Staying transparent in my business dealings and agreements. The value of respecting myself and others. As last person standing to always be accountable and responsible for all my actions. Working with grace under pressure of deadlines, details and maintaining patience with everyone including myself. I know that I work hard and no matter the circumstances, I am always fair.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I, Ivory Morgan-Burton have achieved being an eco-friendly luxury event planner by creating experiences that are desirable, every time you celebrate. More importantly is our giving back to others and the community. Our 4 years old endeavor of Love Petals is going strong and I am very proud to be the founder. What Love Petals does is Donate, Prep, Arrange & Share Love Petals In Our Community.
Love Petals is on a mission to save flowers from being thrown away or destroyed coming directly from wholesalers. Including the repurpose of wedding and event flowers, bringing Love Petals to those most in need in our communities, the sick and shut-in. Share love and reminding them, they are not forgotten.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
From a very young age, I watched my parents work and establish their own businesses. Specifically my mother, Lola. She had the ability and honestly that was achieved with her set goals of business. I learned early that your word matter most. Now, I feel an agreement is only as good as the people signing it. And I still maintain the thought of, from the past of their being a time you could shake hands and know the transaction was fair and would be done on both sides. I witness my mother making a phone call to business vendors and the goods arriving within hours of her call, all with her word of making the payment. My moment when I felt I had achieved that business relationship of honesty was when I needed to pay a vendor. Of which I totally forgot to make. When I called to let them know I had remembered and was sending it. Their comment to me was, ” you are the last person, I ever worry about, I always know you will pay me.” Same holds true with my clients, fair prices, open and honest and when their choices changes, make the changes and if a refund is due, give it. Or when I was doing the budget for a client, I missed adding in the price on the final invoice. My fault, they didn’t get charged due to my error. However, they still got the items they asked for.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say, never be concerned about others and their opinions. I got there, just took me a while. Not everyone that you know, knows you. Make your choices and be strong enough too. I believe nothing is written in concrete when it comes to one making a decision. Make it, but be flexible to change it.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! Strong, bold and ready to help others. Open and transparent in business, personal and all relationships.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I believe that is already a truth for me. I am what I do in secret, God will openly reward me. I am clergy and serve as a wedding officiant for my business. As well as serve other businesses in marry couples. I don’t need to be praised or receive accolades for doing what should be done. I believe in doing everything with a spirit of excellence.
