Jamie Fogle of Smithsburg on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Jamie Fogle and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Jamie, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I recently envisioned myself as a customer in my own business. As if I was coming for the very first time. I looked around at all the beautiful annd eclectic mix of art that represented so many different people and I thought wow, this is really cool and I can’t believe I created this.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jamie and I’m the founder of the Artists Palette Hair Salon and Gallery as well as our brand new non profit The Artist’s Palette Involved.

What makes our organization unique is we have a deep desire to spread awareness about how beneficial the arts can be on your mental health. Our salon doubles as an art gallery featuring over 30 artists and 1 international artist who has a piece hanging ironically at the center for brain and mind medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.

We developed a nonprofit to further our reach while providing educational opportunities, scholarships, resources, collaboration with the goal of bringing people together through the beauty and arts industry.

We are currently working on a music and arts festival for our local community in Smithsburg to honor my late brother in law, Mentor. This has become a passion project. The goal is to create a multicultural experience called TAPIstry, weaving the community together through music and art.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was an extremely shy introvert who was afraid to speak in fear of what people would think.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I was sexually assaulted as a young child. I was finally able to forgive the person and have a difficult conversation about it. I will probably never forget though. I did experience similar experiences as a young adult when I didn’t value myself. I’m still working on myself to this day and learning how to love myself.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Helping as many people as possible while I’m still living. Creating the Honey Bea cafe. A place where all are welcome to eat.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
💯, sometimes the littlest things excite me. I absolutely love connecting with people. I truly do tap dance or just dance when I’m happy. Dancing is something that I want to do more often once I get these passion projects off the ground. Tap dancing is my favorite. As a matter of fact my team helped create our mascot, a tap dancing rain drop named TAPI, which ironically later became the official name of our nonprofit. Although initially it was spelled TAPY.
