We recently had the chance to connect with Jay lang and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Jay , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now, I’m juggling three jobs that keep me on my toes. I work for a media company, a publishing house, and handle publicity for a rock band. Oh, and I can’t forget my Portuguese Water Dog, Molly, who keeps me just as busy. I start my days early, hit the ground running, and do my best to fit every task into the hours I have. In the evenings, I try to carve out a little time to write. It’s been a hectic schedule lately, no doubt, but I’m learning a lot along the way.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jay Lang, and I’ve written sixteen books, including two historical fiction novels commissioned by the Government of Canada. My most recent works are rock and roll thrillers that have been endorsed by rock stars around the world, with some even contributing directly to the books, which has been incredible fun. I only began writing about five years ago, but I’m able to complete a novel in just six weeks. When I speak to upper-level creative writing students at universities, they often ask where my dark and frightening story ideas come from and if I ever get writer’s block. I always tell them that, even though I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat, my mind is full of strange and haunting scenes.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Wow, what a thought-provoking question! This is a hard one. I’d have to say that betrayal of trust breaks bonds the quickest and the deepest. When honesty or loyalty is violated, even once, it can crack the foundation of safety between people, and that’s never good. As for how to mend a broken bond, I think forgiveness is key. Letting go of resentment doesn’t change the past, but it opens the door to a fresh start. It’s not easy, though!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I think I would tell my younger self to be brave and that anything is possible. The sky is the limit!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe that while we are small on our own, we are vital threads in the fabric of everything.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yep, big time. I was an actress and did TV, film, and commercial work. I went into that world believing that it was going to be magical and fulfilling, but I eventually learned that the cost of success was far more than I was willing to pay. I hope I don’t deter any would-be actors; it just wasn’t for me.
