Jcrux Tilson of Sacramento on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jcrux Tilson . Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Jcrux , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
I think the most important thing I’ve learned about my customers is that they share my work and they admire it and there’s always a story that they can tell me behind my work and I think that being an artist is the one place that you tell your own story, but I think that it surprises me that other people have their own perspective and it’s always so detailed

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jcrux, and I’m a photographer, painter, and videographer. I create under the brand Crux Visuals, which is all about capturing emotion and telling stories through different forms of art. What makes my work unique is how deeply it’s connected to how I feel — I’m very in tune with my emotions, and I use my craft to express that honestly. Whether it’s through a lens, a brush, or a video, I want people to feel something real when they see my work. I’m constantly learning from my peers and mentors, pushing myself to grow and find new ways to bring my ideas to life.”

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I have a few mentors and they are definitely. I could say a big part of why I’m where I’m at with my art but ultimately I do learning from my self and my mistakes and receiving advice from my peers definitely taught me the most about my work, but I definitely have to mention my first mentor/therapist her name is rachel busch she taught me how to do my first painting, and she told me how to project my emotions into my art and honestly that something that’s really hard to this day, but I can say that it stemmed from her and my other mentor his name
Kent lacin and he really just gave me an eye-opener on the business aspect and learning how to see and take care of business and really make sure that I’m not being taken advantage of and also just giving me lots of opportunities and connections and that’s always gonna be appreciated and I believe he taught me that and I think that’s important when dealing with business

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there’s been plenty of times. I felt like giving up but honestly when I get that push from the people around me and just look at all of my accomplishments it makes me realize that I’m on the right path and I need to continue doing what I’m doing and this is my calling and it’s proper and it feels right And I think that that’s something that everyone struggles with feeling like giving up but I think the number one thing that’s important is bouncing back and handle in

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
“A cultural value I protect at all costs is authenticity. I come from a place where expression means everything — it’s how we tell our stories, how we heal, how we connect. So for me, being real in my art isn’t optional, it’s sacred. I don’t ever want to lose that raw honesty in what I create. Whether it’s through my photos, paintings, or videos, I always want my work to feel like me — unfiltered, emotional, and true to my roots.”

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
“I hope people say that I created from the heart — that everything I touched came from a real place. I want to be remembered as someone who wasn’t afraid to feel, to be vulnerable, and to express that through art. Someone who inspired others to chase their passion and stay true to themselves, no matter how hard it got. At the end of the day, I just want my work and my story to remind people that emotions are strength, and creativity can change lives — starting with your own.”
