We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jennifer Lyn. Check out our conversation below.
Jennifer, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m always most proud of the editing process. Crafting the final audio that is posted for everyone to enjoy is a big process and if you haven’t done it, I feel like you don’t truly get it. It takes dedication and attention.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
So excited to talk to you again!
I’m Jennifer Lyn and I’m the host an creator of At This Performance Podcast. The decision was made to do a podcast and now I have one. I’m constantly trying to find unique gems in the theatre industry. Everyone has a story that’s worth listening to and I hope listeners find that in every episode.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I really started to get into theatre. This world just opened up to me with all these possibilities for story-telling and how you perceive things. Once I got hooked, I wanted to learn everything I possibly could about the industry, which led me to now actually working in the industry and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Definitely. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but I have such an amazing group of friends and we all encourage each other (shout out to the Old Sports!). No matter how hard things may get, if you find your passion, keep going.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
100%! I’m such a nerd and I’m not the best speaker, nor am I the prettiest girl. None of these things matter if you are not presenting the real you. I’m passionate about the things I love and the things that I do.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I always give everything my best. If someone doesn’t like what I’m doing, that’s fine. Not everyone has to like me. I don’t need approval or praise. Is it nice? Of course it is! It’s not everything though. If you are proud of the work you do and the product you present to the world then you’ve won.
