Jose, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think a lot of people these days, myself included, are struggling to really understand who they are. Many haven’t found their purpose or path yet and it’s easy to feel behind when you’re constantly seeing everyone’s highlight reels or fake-perfect lives on social media. But the truth is, you’re probably exactly where you’re meant to be. We all need to remind ourselves that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. It’s okay to be wrong sometimes, to admit it, and to stay open to learning and trying new things. Keep an open mind. Take risks. Help others. Stay positive. Pour into your own cup, take care of yourself, mentally, emotionally, physically, and that’s when you’ll start discovering your purpose and executing on your bigger vision. Become a beast!

Think big, dream bigger, but start small

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jose Taveras, the creator of Real Relate! A brand that’s all about diving into the latest and greatest in pop culture. So, what sets us apart? I focus on holding companies accountable for the products they release by delivering NO FLUFF reviews that get right to the point. I’ve always been a huge fan of pop culture, whether it’s movies, TV shows, music, games, or anything in between — I love sharing recommendations with others. It’s something I did with my family growing up. So, I try to keep things as real as I can by giving feedback from the perspective of the everyday person.

At Real Relate, we’re building one of the strongest communities online. It’s a place where your voice is not only heard, but it actually influences the products and content these companies put out.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mother and grandmother have always seen my full potential, even before I could see it myself. They have always believed in me, but more importantly, they instilled the discipline and strong work ethic that have shaped the person I am today. Without them I wouldn’t be who I am and I am forever grateful. Everything I do is for my friends, my family, and those aspiring for greatness even if they can’t see it in them themselves yet.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
To be honest, there have been times when I’ve created content for Real Relate and thought about giving up. Sometimes your content gets no views or engagement, and you feel completely discouraged. You start to wonder: Is it worth continuing this journey? Should I quit? Do people actually get any value from my content? Should I just copy what others are doing because it’s hot and trendy? In moments like these, you have to dig deep and remember who you are and what you stand for. You must remind yourself why you started, reconnect with the love you have for the content you create and stay self-motivated.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
That’s what Real Relate is all about! What you see on screen is exactly what you get in real life. I treat everyone with the love and respect they deserve, no exceptions. That’s why once you find your way to Real Relate, you’re probably gonna stick around because it really does feel like a community built on friendship and family aura. It’s like having an best friend 24/7.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I’d stop caring about what people think of me or at least stop letting it affect how I express myself. It really does hold you back from showing your true self and creating the best content possible. I used to care so much about what people thought, wanting to be liked and get along with everyone, that I completely lost sight of the point of what we do: to bring real value to the people who tune into Real Relate, while also having fun along the way. Not everyone will love us or agree with us and that’s okay. I do this for the fans and future generations. The mission behind every piece of content is bigger than you could ever imagine.
