Joye Hurling of Inland Empire on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Joye Hurling shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Joye, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day, most days I start with prayer, meditation, reading of scriptures, then I workout. Other days I pray, meditate, read scriptures, set up my trades for the morning then workout. The top of the morning is the most important part of the day for me. It sets the tone and mindset for the rest of the day. I don’t permit others access to me until after 7am pst unless its my accountability partner. We typically check in by 430am pst. I love the mornings!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Joye Janine, the powerhouse behind the brand IamJoyeJanine—a creative entrepreneur, artist, content creator, and unapologetic voice for youth empowerment and social change. My mission is simple but fierce: to Empower, Entertain, and Evoke Change in a generation that refuses to be silent.

Through my YouTube channel, Instagram, Twitch, TikTok, and beyond, I create content that is raw, controversial, and thought-provoking—sparking conversations that challenge the status quo while giving young people the tools to rise as leaders, visionaries, and changemakers.

Alongside my husband, Brian Hurling, I co-lead The Creative Collective Media Group, where we design transformative programs like The Power of Goal Setting & Leadership Development and Words, Rhymes & Writing. These initiatives blend creativity, leadership, and entrepreneurship, equipping Gen Z and Gen Alpha with the mindset and skills to step boldly into their future.

What makes my brand unique is the fusion of storytelling, music, motivational fire, and social commentary—delivered with honesty, urgency, and an unshakable belief that the next generation isn’t just the future, they are the NOW.

I don’t just create content; I create a movement. And if you’re ready to be stretched, challenged, and inspired—you’re in the right place.

Presently, I am working on promoting my spoken word album, entitled “The White Light Project.” I am also preparing for a school tour, as well as impacting to influence my followers and subscribers on all platforms encouraging them to be the best version of themselves.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I believed that I could be what I wanted to be, but there were limits on how far I could reach. I feel that came from people telling me that I should be this or I should be that or I couldn’t do this so I need to do that. I know that came from others limited thinking, low expectations, or failures. As I began to learn and experience things in life, I began to see that beyond the sky is the limit and if I focus, stay consistent, and put myself out there I could really go further than just baseline performance. Average has never been my portion or a level that I felt was where I wanted to be in life. Allowing myself to create new thought patterns and being very intentional about my mindset and personal development much of my childhood programming has been replaced with programming that serves me. That comes with being very deliberate with what I put inside my mind and spirit. Even more so who I allow in my space, grant access to, and who I am choosing to mentor and coach me. The belief of knowing I can be what I want with limitations has evolved to one of my current mantras, ” I am the best version of myself everyday… blinding with the aura of my supernova rays…on purpose in purpose destined for the multi purpose…my power comes from God creator of the Universes..” I no longer put a cap on how far I can go!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I believe the fear of making mistakes, not doing it perfectly, or being judged because they may think its not at the highest level it could be has held me back most in life. Or rather delayed my progress more than anything. I was in competitions at a very early age for much of my pre and post adolescent years. I think the pressure to be first or not to mess up came from some of those experiences. I know it has shaped me into the person that I am today that makes me always want to put my best foot forward never settling for mediocre, but at the same time I believe it has stiffled me. I think sometimes I refrain because I am trying to figure out ways to make it better. One of my mentors says, done is better than perfect! Meaning complete the task in a timely manner and move on. Don’t get stuck on making changes and you never launch. I set timelines for myself and due dates for certain tasks and projects which has helped me improve in this area, but perfectionism is tough especially as a performer and influencer. It really weighs heavy some days!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I am very big on being genuine and staying true to who I am regardless of the atmosphere. The content I promote, the music I write and perform, and the brands I use and recommend are all because they are a reflection of who I am. Authenticity is thrown around so causally on social media and so many claim to be it, yet their actions and words are very contradictory. That is not something I ever wanted to portray. I don’t think one can have true impact on people being wayward. I say what I mean and mean what I say. I know I have been consistent over the years of speaking up and out about controversial issues and not afraid how others felt about it. Even as a young person I took this stance. I got in trouble for talking back…but I made sure my voice was heard. Being able to really evoke change in society I feel comes with being true to who you are at home and in the community including being transparent with people about your life and things you’ve learned along your journey. Youth listen to those who they can relate to…so I truly make it a point to honor my word and if I have to change some things I keep them up on what’s going on. My public self and private self are definitely in alignment. I feel because I am on social media so much and go live so frequently its hard not to be the real me. Fake it until you make is not my thing. I set a goal, build a system, and go! Keeping it Queen is my thing! Like it or not! Long gone are the days that I worry about how someone feels about what I say, how I say it, and how they feel about it! That is true authenticity.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want people to say that their life was changed for the better because they watched a video of mine, was touched by a post they saw, participated in a challenge I was doing and was pushed to raise up to a better version of themselves, or they saw me at their school and it made them think different or encouraged them to go harder and be better. Also, they were impacted by a program I did they took part of and it changed their life!

I truly hope the story they tell of me fits who I am and what I stand for, which is to EMPOWER ~ ENTERTAIN ~ & EVOKE CHANGE! I also hope that in their story it talks about not being afraid to go at it alone and she was willing to lose people along the way because they failed to grow with her. That she was a true leader and was very courageous when it came to attacking controversial issues that others may refrain from in fear of losing followers or being judged.

Most importantly, I hope their story highlights that I wanted a better society and believe that young people are the key to a better future with guidance, direction, and love they can make it happen. Also that she was a fighter who never gave up. Just transformed over time changing peoples perspective of certain things in life for the better.
