We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kana Cayvana. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kana below.
Kana, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I draw resilience from the little girl with big dreams who still lives within me. She’s someone I never want to disappoint. I can often picture her and remember the dreams she once had. Now, as an adult, I see myself as her protector. In times of hardship, I find strength by reconnecting with the reasons I started my journey in the first place. My resilience isn’t about waiting for someone to save me; it’s rooted in relentless faith and determination.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I consider myself to be an educator first, I am currently working to bring my program, Solace Secure, into schools so children can experience the power of art. This program focuses on expression through knowledge, experience, and creation, shifting the way we view art. Here we view art as a tool for supporting our mental health. Our goal is to encourage personal growth and foster mental wellness by promoting healthy daily routines. What makes this venture so special to me is the potential it holds—even the smallest change can create a ripple effect that might save someone someday.
I believe everyone should know how to manage their mental well-being in a healthy way. Art has always been my safe haven, and I hope to share that perspective with the youth, giving them artistic tools they can rely on to navigate life. My love for art has been constant over the years, and it’s something I’ll continue until the end of my days. I want to offer that same certainty and sense of peace to others.
I feel a duty to the youth in my community, ensuring they have better opportunities and support than I did at their age. That’s why I’ve pursued certifications as a postpartum doula, head teacher, and board-certified autism technician. I’ve taken the opportunity to learn and be of service to children and families in my community, laying the groundwork to provide meaningful support.
Everyone deserves to have tools to make daily life a little easier to navigate, both individually and as a family. Our children deserve to understand how they learn best and to know that different learning styles don’t diminish their worth or potential. Through Solace Secure, I aim to help children feel capable and empowered, ensuring they can apply what they learn to their lives with confidence and independence.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, one of the most impactful elements of my journey has been networking. The confidence that comes with making connections is often underestimated. I’ve had the privilege of meeting people from all walks of life, and it’s surprising how many similarities you can find with others. Many of my opportunities have come through word-of-mouth and personal connections. When you network, you’re not just building relationships—you’re creating invaluable resources for yourself and others. Have you ever heard the saying, ‘You haven’t met all the people who will love you yet’? That has certainly been true for me. By understanding the importance of networking, I’ve connected with some incredible women who used their knowledge to help me advance, skip steps, and run my business more efficiently.
Another crucial skill that has shaped my career is determination. It’s easy to be productive when you’re motivated, but determination is what keeps you going when motivation fades. It’s the driving force behind commitment, and it pushes you to show up and do what’s needed, even when you don’t feel ready or capable. This skill is something that grows over time, and while I’ve made great strides, it’s still a work in progress.
Keeping an open mind has also been a key part of my journey, allowing my creativity to thrive. This is where I break out of the box and let my imagination run free. It’s fascinating how two people can hear the same information but interpret it in completely different ways, leading them down distinct paths. For me, having an open mind is like safeguarding my imagination while staying eager to learn. It gives you the ability to make a way out of no way, to shift the course of things by simply remaining open to possibilities.
This approach is often overlooked, but it’s incredibly powerful. By keeping an open mind, you’re able to break out of the mental limitations that might hold you back. You can entertain new ideas and perspectives, which often leads to a change in mindset for the better. It’s not just about finding opportunities but creating them, and that’s something so simple yet so impactful.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My attention to detail is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it helps me stay organized and ensures I keep track of everything, which is essential as a business owner. When you’re running your own venture, there’s no one else to hold you accountable, so paying attention to the little things is critical. The small details often have a significant impact, and they can make all the difference in the outcome of a project. Whether it’s refining a piece of art, managing day-to-day tasks, or making sure every part of the business runs smoothly, being detail-oriented ensures that nothing slips through the cracks.
However, this strength can sometimes turn into a stumbling block. My focus on the details can leave me feeling stuck, especially when I find myself striving for perfection. It can slow me down, leading to moments of hesitation or even causing delays because I’m too focused on getting every little thing just right. But I’ve learned that perfection can often be the enemy of progress.
To overcome this, I’ve had to shift my mindset. Rather than allowing the pursuit of perfection to hold me back, I now focus on taking action and adjusting as I go. It’s about finding the balance between caring for the details without letting them paralyze my forward movement. Things rarely go exactly according to plan, and that’s okay. What matters is continuing to move toward your vision, making improvements along the way rather than waiting for everything to be ‘perfect’ before you start. It’s a lesson I’m still working on, but it’s made all the difference in my ability to keep progressing.
