Kirstin Protsman discusses The Library Trilogy by Mark Lawrence

We’re excited to chat with Kirstin Protsman about The Library Trilogy. Check out our conversation below.

Kirstin, it’s so good to be connecting again, this time to discuss one of your favorite books. So – let’s jump right in, can you tell us about The Library Trilogy – what should our readers know about this book?
The Library Trilogy is a series of books by Mark Lawrence – The Book That Wouldn’t Burn, The Book That Broke The World, and The Book That Held Her Heart (releasing in 2025) – is a blend of mystery, love, and great storytelling.

I started The Book That Wouldn’t Burn without much thought – I briefly read the summary, it sounded interesting, and it just so happened to be available on Libby, the library app. Almost immediately, I was hooked – I’d grab my phone at any opportunity to read just one more page.

The story follows two main characters: Liviria, starting as a young girl living in a desperate, impoverished world, and Evar, trapped inside the vast library with a few companions and a library assistant. It’s packed with twists, turns, and characters that you can’t help but feel for.

At the heart of the book is the library itself – a vast place filled with all knowledge and history. It’s full of secrets that keep me thinking about the story and characters long after I’ve finished the book.

Great, so maybe you can get into a bit more detail about why this book feels relevant to you and perhaps you can touch on any lessons or insights that resonated with you?
This book points out how very different truths are for different people – both good and bad. You can always find information out there (and in the library) to support your opinion, regardless of how right or wrong it may be.

Were there any twists or surprises that caught you off guard?
There were lots of surprises that caught me off guard – but in hindsight, it all made sense.

How did you discover this book?
I believe this book popped up as a suggested read on Good Reads. At the time, I was exploring different genres as I had recently started reading books again and decided, “Why not try something I would normally not even consider?”

Where do you get your work ethic from?

We’ve all heard the phrase “work hard, play hard,” but where does our work ethic
