Kordell Rashad discusses When Genius Failed by Roger Lowenstein

We’re excited to chat with Kordell Rashad about When Genius Failed. Check out our conversation below.

Kordell, it’s always a great day when we have a chance to connect. Thanks for taking the time to share one of your favorite books with us. What can you tell us about When Genius Failed?
I won’t spoil the book but the book is like a guide to those who overestimate their abilities because of their past successes. In a nutshell you must understand that yes the past is bound to repeat itself but which part is the biggest question? And I think that is the best way to describe this book.

Great, so maybe you can get into a bit more detail about why this book feels relevant to you and perhaps you can touch on any lessons or insights that resonated with you?
Although this book is about finances And risk taking I resonate with it for that reason as It explores the consequences that manifest when your prediction for your future is off. Imagine you coming up and you literally are going all the way up in life. Then out of nowhere everything falls through like a hole in a roof. My personal experiences in life so far can be equivalent to the point of what this author was trying to make. I’m learning that the best way to deal with it all takes some letting go and although it may prompt you to want to give up you shouldn’t but it definitely makes you feel that way when it’s happening so often!

After reading the book, if you had to boil it down to one key take-away, what would it be?
One key take away is that anything can happen so you must be prepared for any kind of outcome. Also gambling can really come with great risk that sometimes not only will be a lesson for you but also a chance for others to learn from your mistakes as well. Sometimes, we are being used to so others won’t do the same things and learn from it through you. Speculation can be dangerous so you must always be prepared for all of the possibilities that may happen!

How did you discover this book?
It was given to me by a friend who was involved in the stock markets. He was apart of Goldman sacks firm and also graduated high school early so he was somewhat of a genius.
