Kristina Latour of Washington Heights on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kristina Latour. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Kristina, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
What makes me lose track of time—and find myself again—is the act of creation in all its forms. Whether I’m crafting actor reels, bringing characters to life on stage or screen, singing, or engaging in any kind of performance, I become fully immersed in the moment. I also thrive in collaborative environments, especially when co-creating with actors on their reels or working alongside fellow performers during rehearsals and live shows. These creative experiences not only inspire me but also help me reconnect with my passion and purpose.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kristina Latour, the creative force behind Latour de Force Productions, where I specialize in crafting professional reels that help actors and performers book more work. My training at the School of Visual Arts equipped me with the technical skills and creative expertise to excel in video editing. Some clients have even playfully called me a perfectionist—if that means treating every project as if it were my own, then I gladly wear that title.

Beyond my editing work, my background as a performer—both acting and singing—in the Film & TV industry gives me a unique edge. It allows me to capture authentic, spontaneous moments that truly resonate, earning me a reputation for producing high-quality, professional reels that stand out.

What truly sets me apart is my deep understanding of industry trends, my meticulous attention to detail, and my unwavering passion for storytelling. I love those moments when a client sees a cut I’ve edited and says, “I never thought of that!” It’s a testament to the care and creativity I bring to every project. For me, this business is far more than a job—it’s a labor of love born from a genuine passion for storytelling.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
One of my earliest memories of feeling truly powerful takes me back to my days in Arlington, VA, where I lived in an apartment with two other roommates. When they both moved out simultaneously, it fell to me to find new roommates—long before the convenience of cellphones and the internet. I had to rely on placing ads in the local newspaper and posting flyers in supermarkets and other community spots. Then came the interviews with potential roommates, a process that required awareness and confidence.

That experience was a turning point for me, as it showed me that I was capable of handling challenges independently, and not only did I find two new roommates, but I also formed lasting friendships with them. It was a powerful moment of self-reliance and resourcefulness that I carried for quite a while.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I wouldn’t necessarily call it suffering—there are certainly more difficult experiences out there—but during my young adult years living on my own, I faced many lean times. There were moments when I wasn’t sure how I would pay the rent or how to stretch my budget enough to cover groceries for the month. Those challenges taught me invaluable lessons that success may not have been able to. They built my character, deepened my resilience, and gave me a profound appreciation for stability and abundance when they come. It’s through those tougher times that I learned the value of perseverance and gratitude.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that making sure everyone feels included, seen, and heard really matters to me. Growing up, I didn’t always feel that way in social settings, and knowing how isolating that can be has made me really focused on making sure people don’t feel left out. I think when people feel acknowledged, it helps them be more confident and open up, which makes for better connections and a more positive vibe all around. For me, it’s important that everyone feels like they belong and can just be themselves.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Indeed, I could. Being a bit of a perfectionist, I can’t really imagine doing anything halfway, especially when it’s something I’m passionate about. For me, it’s not so much about seeking praise or recognition from others—it’s more about the personal satisfaction that comes from knowing I gave it my absolute best. Even if no one notices or says anything, I find value in the effort itself and in the growth that comes from pushing myself. The real reward is in the work and the progress I make, not just the external validation. It’s about integrity and pride in what I do, regardless of who’s watching.
