We recently had the chance to connect with Krystle Grandy and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystle, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I actually love to scrap book, I physically print out photos and scrapbook them which is just so relaxing to me!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Krystle Grandy and I am a Video Producer and Producer/Partner at Venture Road Pictures LLC. I also work full-time at an advertising agency, Brunner where I produce commercials. I love producing because I come from a production background, starting as a PA on music video & scripted TV sets in Los Angeles, CA to working as a wardrobe assistant, production coordinator, UPM, Line producer, 1st and 2nd AD to name a few roles I’ve held. I pride myself in taking care of my crews and knowing what each role should be doing but also not micromanaging the pros and allowing them to thrive and own their own role. Currently, I am producing 3 documentaries for Venture Road Pictures, one in post-production, one in production and one in pre-production. I am also always traveling and producing work for Brunner. Last but not least I am the current Vice President, soon to hopefully be President of Women in film and Media Pittsburgh. You can read more about me and my background at www.kgrandymedia.com
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was definitely a scene queen and a punk rocker. I mostly hung out with all the guys at school and had very few female friends. I also dyed my hair constantly and had some pretty wild hair styles back in the day. I was definitely a rebel without a cause growing up.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say to have more fun and not work so hard, you can always work hard but you can’t get back precious moments from your youth like college parties and what not, you need to prioritize both but be conscious of time you can’t get back.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A project/belief I’m committed to is improving Pittsburgh’s chapter of Women in film and media and advocating for better treatment and representation of women in our industry as well as equality for all within the video space. I really believe in this organization and in 2026 am hoping to be serving as the Board’s President.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop waiting to do the things that light my soul on fire, things like traveling to different spots all over the world, telling the people I love how I feel and much more.
