KyAnna Maychelle of Sikeston on Life, Lessons & Legacy

KyAnna Maychelle shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

KyAnna , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy was actually not too long ago. I’ve picked my business back up within the last month or so & my level of happiness has increased significantly. I look forward to receiving and completing orders, ordering supplies to build my inventory, finding ways to better my products and my skills. My heart and soul is in my business so it makes sense that I find so much joy in it. I’ve also been with the love of my life for 4 months almost 5 & it’s been a wonderful journey with him. He’s so supportive with all that I do & his love is so pure.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, I’m KyAnna Maychelle & I am the owner of Granny Girls Suite Puddin’ Co better known as GGSuite Puddin’ Co. When I was interviewed the first time last year I believe it was, I was baking cookies and cakes but now I’ve rebranded and I’m formulating puddin’ recipes. I’ve been in the business of making sweet treats since 2023 & I’ve learned so much and witnessing my growth is so inspiring and amazing.
I’ve lost my way a few times but the reason for taking is as far as I have always come back to mind & it’s my grandmother, Ruth G Bonds. She’s the heart of the business.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My partner, Jacoby for sure saw me clearly before I could see myself. A good partner loves all of you but they give extra love to the parts you tend to criticize the most. When you pick yourself apart it’s hard to love yourself whole. I won’t say that I see myself the way he sees me but I definitely feel secure in his presence and with the words that he speaks over me. He speaks so much life into me everyday that I have no choice but to start to believe what he says.
He has even gone as far as revealing confidence and potential that I wasn’t aware that I had. The environment he provides for me to grow & shine the way I was always meant to is so beautiful. I’m more than grateful for him.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be that she’s beautiful – always has been and anything that happened isn’t her fault. I still tend to carry her with me even at 27 years old because she is very well apart of me. She is owed so much love, attention and room to be free and I’m making sure I give that to her every chance I get.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
Everyone deserves basic human decency & everyone deserves rights. I don’t understand how anyone can mistreat or harm another human being because of the color of their skin, their sexuality/pronouns, language that they speak or their beliefs.
It’s okay not to understand something but it isn’t okay to continue to be ignorant & using that ignorance in a way to harm someone else & using your ignorance to excuse your poor behavior. I myself am pansexual, spiritual & Black American & even before I knew myself in that light of being spiritual and pansexual I gave respect to those that are like me. I stand firm on respecting peoples wishes when it comes to what they want to be called and the pronouns they want to use, we use pronouns daily so it costs nothing to use the correct ones. I respect everyone no matter their race but I will NOT stand for disrespect or discrimination. We are in a time where there is war on America & citizens are losing their lives, people are losing rights, people are being displaced & it’s become more normalized for people to spew their hateful rhetoric against groups of people that don’t look like or sound like them. I will argue this argument everyday if I have to. EVERYONE DESERVES HUMAN DECENCY & EVERYONE DESERVES RIGHTS!
America is a melting pot & we are painted with many beautiful cultures and wonderful people – that’s what makes America what it should be.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely, I am in competition with myself and all that I do has my name on it so I will always put my best into everything that comes from my hands.
