Lauren Mullinax’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lauren Mullinax. Check out our conversation below.

Lauren, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I’ve been working with a group called Mind and Melodies and it has been an incredibly meaningful experience. It’s truly moving to witness seniors in memory care come alive through music — individuals who moments before seemed distant or unresponsive suddenly light up, singing every word of familiar songs. These moments reaffirm my deep belief that music has a powerful ability to heal and connect us. Each session reminds me that music doesn’t just reach others; it’s healing me, too.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lauren Mullinax—I’m a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter with a passion for creating music that heals. My signature performance features a light-up blue cello and my trademark is a miniature hat. I also play over 10 instruments. Basically anything that has strings but my main two are cello and guitar.

I love exploring new sounds and writing songs that blend fun, love, and meaning—music that moves both the heart and the body. My goal is to help shape a new, healing genre of music—one that uplifts the spirit and reminds people to savor the beautiful little moments of the present.

My journey is deeply personal. As a survivor of human trafficking, I’ve faced my own struggles with mental health. Through my music, I strive to offer comfort, connection, and hope to others who are struggling. My mission is simple but powerful: to bring more peace, purpose, and happiness into the world—and to remind you that you are never alone.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Picking up the cello in 5th grade completely changed my life. It all started the moment I heard an orchestra perform and saw the cellist playing the Jaws theme — I was instantly hooked. I went home that day and told my parents, “I’m joining the orchestra next year!”

The journey wasn’t easy. We ordered my first cello through early eBay, and when it arrived, it had a huge hole in it — just days before the school program began. I had to wait several months for a replacement, which meant I fell behind the rest of my class. For years, I struggled and often found myself sitting in the last chair of the orchestra.

But things changed when I joined a group that played movie soundtracks. Something inside me lit up — my passion for music came alive. From that point on, I was practicing up to eight hours a day, and the cello, along with songwriting, became my world.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely — the answer is YES! I’ve wanted to give up so many times, but something deep inside won’t let me. Even on the days when it feels impossible, my spirit keeps pushing forward. I know it’s God leading me to keep going.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
Ghost. I swear I’ve seen some weird things. Once was in Monticello. I saw shadow people. Another time was in a haunted hotel. My parents and I witnessed lights flickering, breath on the window and moving things. I also believe in aliens too because my parents and I have seen UFO’s and just seen too much to not believe. Also Bigfoot… Come on… There’s been so many sightings! Might as well believe in mermaids, unicorns and dragons. Haha

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I’d love for people to be inspired. I have so many ideas that could help mankind and I want us to share these ideas. I just hope we can start a powerful revolution of loving one another boldly. We only win when we help others.
