Laurie Miller of Miami on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Laurie Miller. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Laurie, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Creating always takes me into the zone. I lose track of time and align myself with another dimension. It’s channeling from another source.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Originally from Miami, Florida I have performed on some of the world’s most prestigious cruise lines as well as at corporate events and theatrical productions worldwide.

My professional appearances range from musical theater to lavish revues, intimate jazz clubs, major label recording projects and so much more.

I am known in the industry as one of the original members and creators of the pop-hit group EXPOSE´. Our debut album EXPOSED is documented in the Rolling Stone Rock and Roll Hall of Fame history book for having more Top 10 hits than the Beatles or the Supreme’s had on their debut album.

I am also the CEO and founder of XICA Productions (shee-ka). Known internationally… XICA Productions is acclaimed for creating unique and artistic atmosphere in diverse entertainment venues using unusual entertainers, creative lighting and décor.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
In the 70s, I was living in Los Angeles and I happened to meet Anthony Perkins. He pulled me aside and told me that he saw me as a mix between Barbra Streisand and Elizabeth Taylor and that I should seriously consider having a career in show business. At the time I was an artist and an entrepreneur, but having him say that to me really made me see myself in a much broader view, and it literally changed my life.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Being in show business for most of my life created a lot of sacrifices with my relationships. I’ve had many wonderful, meaningful relationships. What happens in my experiences is that people think they can change you. Especially when it comes to a man who wants to make you his wife. They expect you to change and not be who you are and to be who they want you to be. It’s taken me a long time to understand this and now I revel in my independence.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, and no… I love people, I love helping people, I love performing and the experience of that exchange of energy and love and sometimes sadness, as well as joy and elation. But in reality, in my day-to-day life, I am very much on my own and really thrive on my independence and my sacred space.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that I have inspired people. I have seen people that I have known in my life that have settled and thought that their time was over get reinvigorated to see themselves in another way, in another light, as another age and turned it around and achieved their dreams. What we think about ourselves and what we envision in our mind is very powerful. We can make miracles happen, if we are consistent and have our vision clearly in our mind.
