We recently had the chance to connect with Leila Worby and have shared our conversation below.
Leila, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Argentine Tango.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Leila, I am a yoga teacher, a depth psychological scholar, and a tanguera. I am passionate about soulful movement, tantra, and psychological growth.
What makes my offerings special is that I incorporate shadow work and archetypal psychology when I work with clients, which prevents them from accidentally sliding down the slippery slope of spiritual bypassing.
I practiced in the Ashtanga tradition for years before discovering Kashmir Shavism, which I then added to my offerings. I also practice and teach in the Kriya Yoga and the Kundalini Yoga lineage.
Movement meditation was always fascinating to me, and I have a background in Muay Thai, Taekwondo, Tai Chi, and QiGong.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom always believed in me and helped me understand myself from a young age. I remember when she gave me my first astrology reading when I was in my adolescence.
She also introduced me to tarot when I was a teenager, and I still start every morning meditating on the archetypal energy that is walking with me that particular day.
My mom was also the one to introduce me to yoga at the age of sixteen and QiGong in my early twenties. So much of who I am today is because of the introductions she facilitated when I was very young and impressionable.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t worry so much about feeling misunderstood. You will find people who resonate with your interests and your preferred connection style. Not everyone prioritizes the same type of intimacy. You happen to value intellectual intimacy over emotional intimacy, and that is ok. You will find your people, don’t worry about it.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My close friends know that my family takes priority over everything. After that, what matters to me is spiritual and psychological growth. I also have a geeky passion for improving a little bit every day in the movement modalities that excite me: yoga, tango, and taekwondo.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am privileged to share what I am most passionate about in life: yoga, tantra, and meditation. I couldn’t dream up a better job position. I used to work in corporate, and even though I was a strong performer, it never felt like my true purpose.
